Alternators silverstreak, now G1 Bluestreak! WARNING LOTS OF PICS!

Postby Sonray » Thu May 31, 2007 6:27 pm

Well, here it is! I must say this was certainly a learning experiance but it was alot of fun and i hope to do more in the future!

Anyway i wasnt too keen on the original paint job for Alts Silverstreak, it was dull, plain, and was even worn out in some places.

So since i wanted to do a kit-bash or a re-paint anyway i decided to use this toy as my first attempt since he isnt hard to come by and he isnt very expensive to replace if i screwed him up. Thankfully i have no need to replace him as his new paint job really makes the toy shine (literally) and the G1-style design certainly makes the original paint scheme look bland with a capitol B!

It has been done before by many but in my version i decided to use a different type of paint, as you can see this is Bluestreak with a pimped-out twist, with rainbow metal-flake! Thats a type of paint you usually see on highly customised tuner cars! (the pics dont do the colors justice) :(

I took the toy apart and resprayed the original silver parts with a richer silver paint by airbrush. I did the same with the black sections. I then mixed up a forumula of clear coat laquer with the metal-flake and applied that lightly so i didnt cease up the joints.

After waiting just long enough for everything to dry (its still a bit soft so i need to re-touch up a few bits as i wasnt willing to wait any longer for it to dry more) i put everything back together again, which wasnt as hard as i expected it to be, and here we are!

I followed Bluestreaks original paint job as closely as i could, so i painted his shoulders black, his entire middle torso area red and resprayed his gun and hands silver.
Autobot decal added to the hood/bonnet like the original toy and cartoon thanks to Reprolabels.

Let me know what you think!

Nicely done, all things considered, but wouldn't it have been easier to Frankenstein a Ricochet and a Silverstreak together??

Alcohol would've removed the flame deco on Ricochet.

All in all, nice work, but I think it would've saved you some time.

I still would have had to paint the sides silver, like the front fenders, all the doors and the rear fenders, besides this was all done without spending a penny which was the whole point. The only thing that cost money was the toy itself, and my decision to paint it came after i bought it.

I cant afford to go out buying loads of different alts and TF's and go frankensteining em together. I wish i could beleive me but i simply cant.

Thought id do something a little different for once, considering this style of repaint has been done loads of times before, and i wanted to experiment with metal flake anyway. Its not suited for toys since the flakes are a bit too big compared to the size of the toy, it should be used on real cars but i had no other alternative flakes.

HAhahaha

Yeah, i have to wonder about the sanity of some of you guys round here, specially when you lust after female robots.

However that said, i do have the intentions to draw a geisha bot. ;)

Oh and thanks by the way, i hope to do many more re-paints and kitbashes, they are so much fun!

Yeah, i tried to avoid that as much as possible but it couldnt be helped in some places. He is stiff now but not impossible to move and his stiffness is mainly due to the lacquer.
