can someone explain to me how is it that optimus prime is still alive after he was killed by megatron on the transformers movie 20th anniversary.

He was resurrected after his friends collected the seven dragon balls and wished for his return.

The Quintessons brought him back and used him to try and destroy the autobot fleet. He *died* again.

later on, two humans founds him in the spaceship that he was last scene in (omg thanks to humans Optimus Prime came back to life again!) That was it for Prime in the states I think.

In Headmasters (japan), he died again after sacrificing himself for the greater good, blah blah blah.

he might even come back later on, but I can't follow all the Japanese versions of transformers, to many things going on for my liking.

Not entirely. He had a few parts in Rebirth. The last ditch effort to save the failing franchise in the states. But it didn't count for a whole lot as far as his historty goes.

His next incarnation in Japan was as Star Convoy in the Battlestars manga.

Also as far as the original post goes, remember the voice over on the end of the movie? "...and the greatest Autobot of all, Optimus Prime will return." You didn't think they were just winding us up surely?

Prime was resurrected for a brief time when the Quintessons, the original creators of the Transformers as far as cartoon continuity goes, used him to lure all the Autobots into a trap. In the end, Prime's true personality came back and he sacrificed himself to save the Autobot fleet. (This episode was critized by parents for being too violent and dark for a childrens animated show).

The ending was then retconned when it proved the Optimus was too popular to just be scratched off like that. So it was shown that two humans, who were testing a new heat-resistant shielding for their space ship, found Prime's ship and brought him aboard thier ship moments before Prime's ship was destroyed. After a series of events, which is just too much to go into here, Prime was brought back to life once more, by Sky Lynx who retrieved a Quintesson, to save the entire galaxy after a hate plague began to spread rampent. Prime then used the last of the Matrix's power to destroy the hate plague.

I believe that part was included on the UK release of the original movie. It wasn't on the US release, since it was intended that Optimus Prime would be dead forever. It was only after the fans proved that Optimus was too popular to just kill off, that they planned the episodes for Prime's return.

I do remember a similar line at the end of "Dark Awakening", the first time Prime was brought back.

i belive he was originally going to be in masterforce, but that turned ino the character ginrai.

I love that old "Rude awakening video" I wish I could get a copy to slap on the end of the movie. Or better yet they could release that with the new movie version as an extra... That'll happen.

I didn't know he was saved by dragon balls. That must have been one wild crossover story.

He did come back...as Star Convoy.
