Like Britney Spears, I'm thinking of shaving my head. Any advice?

But if it truly comes down to hair transplant surgery then I'm sure I can come up with the payment, one way or another.

Yeah, propecia and rogaine are two options that I've thought about.

I don't spend money on booze or smokes (not a smoker and don't really drink alcohol that much), but I plead the fifth on loose women.

I did some research on both drugs for you.

Don't bother with rogaine. From what I've read, it will, at most, grow some fine, thin hairs. And if you stop using it, whatever hair, if any, you grew will fall out after a few months, so you are stuck on it. Same with propecia. but with Rogaine, your body might adapt to it and won't even work after awhile.

You can take propecia ( I think the generic name is finasteride, look on that bald truth show for info on that to be sure. ), but it could have sexual side effects, as in you've fallen, and you can't get it up.....but it's rare from what I read.

And dude, lose the loose women. :-P

The only downside with shaving it all off is that it's too high maintenance for my taste. I'm lazy that way. Heck, I SHOULD shave my beard every other day, and I still let it grow for a week before I do anything about it.

This has been almost exactly my experience as well. Had it long (12"+ in college), went to a standard cut, then shaved it off to celebrate a move to a new city.

The temperature variances you will experience if you go this route are alarming. And heed the words of those recommending sunscreen.

There are gizmos and widgets made for really dedicated shavers that are somewhat expensive. I've stuck to my die-hard Mach3 Turbo, which is the best razor in the game as far as I'm concerned.

Shaving gel before, lotion after (not alcohol based).

Maintenance is key to the look. You really can't go more than 36-48 hours depending on your hair color to without it looking worn or sloppy.

Any nicks or cuts will bleed startling amounts but close quickly. After time, your scalp will get accustomed to the razor, and you'll get better at the operation.

There has yet to be a bad bit of advice relating to this on this thread.

It's an awesome look, and worth the effort it takes to maintain it. Wish I still could afford half an hour a day preen my cranium.

I started shaving my head last year for the exact reasons that you listed. I found a razor called a headblade, and it works great. I've cut myself very few times, and the cuts did not bleed uncontrollably. They have a website that you can check out. I use their lotions too, and I've had a very good experience with those too. No burning, and very few blemishes. I got mine at Wal Mart but I think some pharmacies have them too.

Also my head has not gotten itchy from shaving it, and I shave about every other day. And definitely heed the sunscreen warning. And warm hats in the winter.

And there is the added bonus of every girl that you're around wanting to touch your head.

Shave it. If you had a couple 'o grand laying around, I'm sure you'd buy all of the toys that you are missing from your collections (at least that's what I'd do).

Thanks for digging up the info!

Yup, that's why I've been hesitant to use rogaine, since it might not work, and if it does work I'll have to end up using it for practically the rest of my life.

As for propecia, yes, there are sexual side effects. It's also quite expensive and like rogaine I have to keep using it if it works.
