Movie accurate Prime version 2

Postby hakka » Tue Aug 25, 2009 11:22 pm

Here's another Prime I just finished. He will be power up Prime when I find another Jetfire.

He's similar to my other one http://www.seibertron.com/energonpub/viewtopic.php?f=159&t=57300, he has the LED headlights and eyes, although they are not wired up yet, I'm waiting until I get Jetfire.

I put a bit more effort into the paintjob on this one.

Just a couple... minor suggestions... on making the bot mode look even closer to the screen version (which, by the way, you seem to have a knack for doing pretty damn great already) A few spots could use some blue, and a couple could use some red to really up the accuracy.

a quick colour map (using one of your own pics) I photoshopped together
Image
The bands on the feet, on either side of his "I am Optimus Prime" tab, the rest of his vehicle mode's doors, the domes on the outside of his elbows, and two little sections of his shoulder struts are blue on the CG model, and the two hanging pieces of leg armour are red. If you were to add those I daresay it would be the most screen accurate Optimus Prime I've ever seen!
Also, I love your LED works, they really bring the awesome!

Your pic looks great! I need to learn how to do that.

If i can color match the blue and red paint I'll do those bits. There's also some blue with flames just below the red circular panels on his shoulders.

I am going to add custom Jetfire armor to him so a lot of those parts will be obscured.

No alt mode on this one, most of his bonnet would be missing, and 2 of his wheels wont reach the ground.

Hey Hakka sorry to bother you again man. But I painted my test figure with brush for the base with the black u recommend(I'm getting air compressor soon)and dry paint-brush it with the humbrol silver u told me too. The result wasn't as smooth as your optimus hand/feet. U think it's because I use a 3 dollar brush? or is it because I don't use airbrush?
I just start painting TFs It'll be great if you could help me Thanks. Just send me a msg/email if u mind revealing your techniques.. greatly appreciated

I think the problem is in the base coat, sometimes if the paint is too thick it will give the rough look. My first Prime suffers from this a bit, it is possible to brush it on smooth, my Jetfire is all brushed on and looks very smooth. You need to get the consistency of the paint just right, I find the matt black is usually a little too thick when you open a new can.

For this Prime I sprayed on the base coat instead of brushing. I just used a can of matt black automotive spray paint. Its a lot quicker and easier than brushing, but you need to either disassemble or mask the figure.

I don't think your brushes are the problem I only use the cheap ones, and I've never used an airbrush.

Yes, just a normal brush with soft bristles, old half rooted brushes work good too. Make sure the brush is very dry and do few layers. Its much easier when the figure is disassembled as you can brush from any angle.
