Well today I decided it was time to start on my first transformer, a casseticon, after many hours late last night studying (playing with) my small transformers collection.

My cassetticon is planned to be the size of a real cassette and will transform into one of the humanoid casseticons (Probably one of my own invention).

The materials I have used thus far:

Old cassette.
Old cd case.

Those are pretty much all the materials I plan to use plus whatever I end up using to sculpt its head.

I began with opening the cassette and removing all the workings, this left me with two cassette halves (My first pieces ).

I decided it would be best to start from the ground up ie. the legs.
The bottom of the cassette is what will transform into the legs however it had holes in it where the tape head reads from.
Sacrificing some realism I decided to fill these 4 holes (The middle hole will house the feet).

I cut piecec of an old cd cover and filed them to size then super glued them to one half of the cassete.

Progress thus far:

2 holes filled.

I would be taking pictures but my camera phone battery is dead, so I will post pictures when it has recharged later on tonight if I can.

All in all im having fun on my first transformer although im not sure of the final quality yet.

I'm thinking along the lines of Eject or Rewind.

Well the first part of my transformer I am making is its thighs.
Here is the first actual progress.







The part I have cut away is going to be both of his thighs.

Wow... this is a pretty ambitious project, but it looks like you've got a steady hand, given how neat that cut looks. This is one to keep track of...

Well, technically all of the cassette Transformers were all 1/1 scale. The cartoons and comics made them full-sized cassettes but the toyline they came from had them as micro-cassettes.

CASSETTEMAN COMEBACK!!!

Any ideas what i could use for a ball joint that small?

I was thinking maybe eyebrow barbels cause they would be fairly sturdy.
But they cost up 18 dollars (AU) each.

Where could I get small ball joints from?

minicons, basic/scout class figures ?

Shockinis or Stikfas?

Hmm maybe.

I glued little squares of plastic together to make little poles.

I filed them into a round shape.

Drilled a hole in it.



Glued the pole into place.



SLICE!

Cut the thighs into two separater thighs.

Also seen here is the beginnings of the screw point.

try hobby supplies.should get you all the stuff you need.

I did, but there wasn't anything remotely like this stuff there, and no way that I could see to find more items.

I bought the Flexible Pipe Size Large and medium size last year, and its pretty much crap... the large size is ALOT smaller than TM Cheetor tail (i wanted to make a better tail...) heck, is smaller than a G2 cyberket missle!

plus, you need to use some kind of glue to hold the balljoints

That would fit good over a Shockini body!

well, the sizes are mentioned, and Sweater asked for really small balljoints

WHAO long time no updates eh?

Found some joints to use courtesy of Mr Insect robot.



Joint to be used in the knee.



Cut away for the knee joint to work.

EDIT: I'll probably have a leg finished tomorrow, so more pics then.

This is looking great! That joint was made for this project! I'm going to be interested in seeing this completed as from the look of it now it is going to have a very very Generation One look to it. And I see you're an Australian!

Gypsy Magic, definitely gypsy magic. Nah the flyer/brochure/catalog under the leg in a few shots has Blacktown written on it . Anyways, I'll be looking forward to the updates. good luck
