Question about Comics in General

I was just going over my Comic collection and I was wondering.. Why is it some series start with Issue Zero. Why start at Zero. Can someone explain the reasoning/significance of this?

It generally indicates a preview / teaser / prologue issue before the main story thread starts at #1, if I were to give a generalised reason.

But then, it's entirely natural and reasonable to start counting at 0 - just ask any programmer.
