small line or big one?

Postby wavelength » Mon Apr 09, 2007 3:00 am

do you prefer a smaller line (aka classics) or a bigger line (aka cybertron, which had the same number of figs in the first wave as classics had minus the 2 packs roughly)

now i may be a bit biast, coming from england, but i prefer a smaller libe, mostly for the fact that hasbro uk has less oppertunitys to screw us over, and also, a smaller line is likely to have a higher proportion of better figures since there is less pressure on designers to come up with multiple designs than in a big line.

I prefer a smaller one. Gives me a better chance to actually complete it, y'know?

I dunno, normally a bigger line has a better chance of having figures really grab my attention.

On the other hand, Classics is a bit of an aberration. Other than the minicons, there's not a single one I don't want. And the only ones I don't have (other than minicons) are Bumblebee and Astrotrain.

Oh, and the Constructicons, but that and the Bumblebee sitch are being corrected this weekend. :D

I like a strong main line that HAsbro can REALLY focus on. One line is great something without spin-offs like LOC, minicons, Titanium, classics. Those can be good lines in themselves (I'm not saying they're not) just sometimes its gets a little hectic.
If the focus can be placed on one line with a diverse range of characters and gimmicks just through the range of scout to Leader can make it very enjoyable to collect.
Beast Wars is a good example.
Well that's what I prefer anyway.

If the main line is of the quality Cyb was, main line hands down.
If the main line is of the poor gimmick ridden state that Armada and Energon suffered, then I'd probably be more interested in the side lines.

In all fairness, as good as the classics are, most of the tfs have niggalling issues with me whereas (perhaps due to sheer bulk) Cyb/GF hasnt suffered that.
(and some one should tell Hasbro that legs turn from above the knee, not under it.)

Of course the one advantage of side lines is that cause they're smaller, I am more likly to go out and buy them all up like a rabbid fanboy. Especilly when all the sidlines are mainly set in G1esque timelines (the remians of the Alts, Classics and Titainiums which apart from RiD Prime is all based on the G1 timeline).
