The October PhotoContest Disscussion Thread.
You ordered TFs just for the contest?

Will there be a front page/News reminder to remind the potential participants who aren't reading this thread? (sorry if that came off with me sounding like a jerk, I just think that exposure and reminders will get more people to enter the contest)
There will be.
I still have to try and find time to get mine done. The tf I ordered just for this purpose has arrived today!
Thank you!
Glad to hear the cavalry's arrived, I'm anxious to see what you have planned!

Funny story: I had made a custom figure just for the Photocontest, but then the rules of concerning customs were clarified and my custom wasn't allowed. Whatever, I changed ideas for the better anyway.
...hey, that isn't a funny story at all.

I have wanted him for ages now anyway, and found him for a good price, and in good nick too, so I thought why not.

Nice to find an excuse to splurge a bit, isn't it?

I would not call it a splurge! ...Actually, by the time I got some other figures with him, it did turn out to be a small splurge...
So in retrospect; yes, it was good to find an excuse!

Now who was the figure I needed for this shot to work best? c'mon its an easy one!
(it aint Waspinator, mine has always had weak ball joints, I literally shook him lightly over the heap of Con's and where his parts fell, that is where they stayed!)
I have also learnt setting up a photo shot like this is not easy when there is a kitten around who has decided that Waspinator's and Inferno's insect legs are damn tasty!

That was an incredible take on the topic! I had not laughed that hard all day! Way to go, ingenuity!

That is an awesome shot! The lighting is solid, the mood is captured, and I especially like the reference to Emirate Xaaron in the background. Nice touch.
I decided to take a second look at this contest and noticed there are some very fine entries. Not many, but certainly some quality among the bunch. This inspired me to contribute.
I'm not saying who (besides 1337W422102's entry), but I have my top 5 figured out. Judges are going to have a tough time.
I will say that the better images are focused on one section of the epic battle rather than a wide shot. I'm pleased to see some experimenting with lighting to add a dramatic effect. It is tougher to show emotion in a wide shot but a couple of you come very close. Some of those focused, dramatically lit shots are my favorites.
My photo is sort of in-between. Not the best, not the worst (in my opinion anyway). I used a warm light and a birds-eye view to attempt to capture the essence of the death of Ultra Magnus scene from the animated movie using G1 style figures. The difficulty trying to pose G1 figures (and in Cyclonus's case, just stand upright without falling) was part of the challenge.

I'm one of the judges, how does this work? Do I just decide which ones get 1st, 2nd & 3rd for me, then PM Neko? Or do I give reasons for why I like them? Or just talk about it with Neko?

I printed a copy and put in a dollar frame. We will keep it with the action figures. That Optimus shot is awesome.
I'd like to thank the volunteers who take their time to host this thread.
I had fun making the energon river and doing the set for my submission. My 13 year old wanted to set up his figures and do the photo, so, since this is all about how much fun you have doing it, I let him do what he wanted.

Aw shux

Much obliged, Dragonoth!

I actually had planned to add some other elements to the photo, like laser fire & shadowing, although had to scrap those ideas due to time restrictions.
Considering it took five attempts to upload the pic on dodgy dial-up and the post time was 6 mins before deadline, I think I did alright for a first attempt

That and the little red shield in the golden crest on the bottle looks like the Autobot logo.
