The original TF movie: Now more grammatically correct!

Postby Duke of Luns » Sun Aug 12, 2007 8:29 pm

Remember when Jazz uttered "A ginormous, weird lookin' planet just showed up in the suburbs of Cybertron!", well that's now a more grammatically correct phrase:

It basicly said that ginormous is now a word. Also, it "was actually lauded as the best made-up word by Merriam-Webster in 2005". And since the TF movie takes place in 2005, that means....

Jazz and Unicron coined a brand new word :P .

Kidding, but that's what I thought of when I read that ginormous was now a word.

my eyes got really big when I heard Jazz say it (recently re-watched the ani movie) and realized that I'd just discovered the source of the word.

Is there any proof that "ginormous" actually came from the original TF movie? I was just kidding, but it's the only place I've actually heard it.

This was discussed over at unicron.com not long ago.

I think someone there said that "ginormous" was an old US military term, or originated in the military.

I cant find any proof that is existed before the movie, yet neither can I find any proof that it was first used in the movie.

But I would place a large wager that the first time that Ginormous was used in an internationally released film was in TF:TM.

Are you chaps being serious? Because Merriam-Webster's own dictionary suggests that the word originated circa 1948.
