What do you think about Classics Constructicon Devastator?
I was wondering if I should get this guy. My biggest disappointment is, considering how well the Classics line used modern technology to still give us G1 characters with improvements, Devastator has been changed too much. The unique thing about him is that he had 6 constructicons combined to from him, each uniquely construction vehicle with names that made sense.
What is the trade off here? How's the proportions, poseability, etc for this guy that should make him a buy?

I just got him recently, and I love him. He's huge, and very imposing, if a little skinny, kinda like Cyb Metroplex. I'll go thru some points for you, IMHO of course.
Minuses:
-repeated vehicles- His limbs are pairs of the same 2 vehicles in different colors. Not as cool as having all unique machines.
-add-on parts- I've never liked combiners that you have to add extra parts onto to complete, like the claw hands and feet on this guy. I happen to feel it's not "realistic", and those loose parts can be easily lost. RID Landfill is a great combiner that uses no add-on parts.
-head- The head is really more of just a face, tucked into the cab of the cetral vehicle. It does turn, but is limited by shoulder kibble, the scoop from that same vehicle.
Pluses:
-good articulation- Surprisingly, he does have decent joints, esp. if you use a little imagination for his arms and leave the long crane section detached (instead of locked into place as it's "supposed to be"), then you can bend that vehicle at its center joints, creating an elbow. You can also leave the blue claw off the smaller crane vehicle arms and use the opening front sections of those vehicles as crude hands.
-puzzle ability- You can swap all the arms and legs w/ each other, creating different combinations. You can give him larger arms for wrestling, or larger legs for running and kicking/stomping. Or you can have one large arm and leg, for wrestling and stomping!
-individual vehicles- Great bot modes for the separate vehicles, esp. the central one, Scavenger. All have good articulation and are just fun to play with. And their alt modes are good, too, w/ realistic moving features, like scoops and cranes and such.
I HTH, I like him a lot.

That's true, but Devastator wasn't designed for the classics line. It's just a repaint of Energon Constructicon Maximus.
Not sure if you knew that or not, but I figured I would throw that out there anyway.
I don't really like it, but the poseability is awesome! I have mine kitbashed to look like G1 Devastator. I have no pics at the moment, though.
Mine has the G1 head, chest plate, left fist w/ big gun ... and better left arm articulation.
Hasbro really could've made it awesome with a little bit more kibble, oh well.
I'd grab one anyway. It's not too bad, but it's not too great either!

I did NOT know that... now I do and understand why it sticks out like a sore thumb! I've just started collecting again after many years absence when the movie came out.
I think in that case there's one more reason not to be too upset if I lose my bid then! I wish they'd do things properly and not use repaints for once...

That's mostly what turned me off from the Energon Combiners in the first place. Every member should be a unique individual. Even the Stunticons or Aerialbots were all different models. Repaints don't usually sit well with me, and having repaints in the same Gestalt is something I won't tolerate.

I would rather stick a fork in a light socket that get this figure everyone tries to make it sound like figure is fun but it isn't and never will be.

He is a repaint of this figure, I love him, I was playing around with him just last night. Might want to go through the galleries looking at older figures when you get the chance.
Well I thought it was a great figure, we don’t see enough combiners anyway, what’s oh so bad about it?

Oh, somebody just needs to take his laxative today...

It's not THAT bad. If you like combiners, this is hardly the worst you can do. Heck, G1 Superion looks skinnier and weirder than this thing... I was hoping for no repaints, too, but it's not a bad fill-in for Devastator, especially since they gave him his G1 colors.

He can't stay together for sh*t.
Coupled with what's already been said, I've put this guy up for sale/trade.
PM me if interested.
It's not a horrible toy but it's somewhat disappointing. Sort of like the size of G1 Menasor.
p.s.
Universe Devastator (repaint of RID Landfill) is better because of the individual molds and superior articulation.

concidering the faults with it:
2 repaints, only 5 figures, re-use of another lines figure,
it's actually pretty good, but i'm in the process of bashing mine to include a proper 'long haul' aswell as making changes to address the twin thing!

Not true, seems people just have a hard time of pushing the limbs into the sockets hard enough for them to actually connect and snap in.
I have the Energon version minus 2 limbs, so I exchange them for Bruticus's limbs, and they snap in fine, you can pick him, up and pose him, and the limbs stay in place. Heck you even have to apply a bit of force to them to disconnect them.
For a Combiner without real hands he is really good. Nowhere near as bad as everyone claims he is.

I've actually snapped them in place, only to have them fall out seconds later. It's not sturdy. At least my version isn't staying together.

QFT Devastator is one of my favorites, hey could you digibash the classics figures into G2 paint schemes?
I have digibashing material but I’m having trouble with it and it commonly doesn’t look as clean as yours.

I had a chance to buy this guy from Wal-Mart for $30 a handful of times, only to pass since I just didn't think he looked all that impressive. As others have stated, I also wasn't too keen on the reuse of 2 characters, either. I'm regretting not buying Devastator a little bit, if for nothing else to keep him combined, but I don't think it's a big loss if you don't get him, either, IMO.

I disagree totally. I've had both and the Universe version wins on every front. The individual bots are much better and closer to the G1 Constructicons than the Classics version. Devastator's head is more accurate and posable. Plus you can create Dev in three different ways.
To each his/her own, of course. I just was disappointed with the Classics Dev and found Univ Dev to be more of what I was looking for.

Now, I don't own one, but just the look of it annoys me.
Probably wouldn't get one even if it were only $10.

No matter what Hasbro, the fans or the packaging itself says, that pile of sh*t is not Devastator, nor anything remotely similar to the style of Classics for that matter. Slapping green & purple paint on horrible leftover Energon molds, changing names & dropping the team from 6 to 5 characters is one of the biggest brainfart ideas Hasbro has ever had... and I'm still astonished to this day that *anyone* bought into it, let alone claimed to like it. They absolutely wasted a golden opportunity to make an all NEW version of The Constructicons with the same style, detail & articulation of the other Classics by doing what they did, and I count it as the single biggest letdown of the entire line (so far). All it did was prove that Hasbro can & does release anything with the TF name on it and people will blindly praise it.
Personally speaking, I'd rather have no Classics Devastator than what they spewed out. And that goes for any new Classic that just ends up being a repaint of a crappy leftover mold from a previous line. If they're going to be that daft about it, they might as well just re-release more original G1's, repaint them and call 'em Classics.
