The awesomeness of The Orville has completely killed my interest, what little there was,in this show.

there were subtitles in this when the Klingons spoke
+ it's canon that holograms don't exist during the Kirk era, so weird how they exist 10 years earlier? + cloaking devices didn't exist til TOS

And your point is?

At this point, I expect this show will change a bit of technology canon.

The Romulans had cloaking in Enterprise.

so...in that case the NX-01 should still exist in Discovery's timeline(granted mothballed...but still exist)
makes me wonder if Archer's name'll get a mention

Enterprise's Romulan cloaks were experimental and didn't work too well, which is why in Balance of Terror, their perfected cloak was such a surprise.
Don't know how spoilery I can get here. So I'll just say.....
Nice hearing the classic sound effects. Visually, the Trekkie in me is screaming it all looks wrong. Not that I want it to be exactly like the 60's, but it should be close to a modern interpretation of that aethetic. Hull plating should look like the connie, nacelles should be like the classic. After all, it's only 10 years before Kirk, the 1701 should be 10 years into her life already under the command of Robert April. I can forgive the Shinshou looking more like the NX because it's an old ship, even if the nacelles are wrong. I did like seeing that miranda class ship.
But that's just the trekkie in me being pedantic.
As for the show itself.... theme tune is utterly forgetable. Klingon parts feel off, especially when they talk, the holograms really annoy meas that tech was brand new in Sisko's time, and that means they have holoprojectors all over the Bridge.
But I do like all the Starfleet stuff. That really entertained me. Honestly, I think it would have been better setting it post Nemesis and changing the Klingons to something like the Xindi. Then, everything would fit perfectly.
I'm going to pretend this is it's own parallel universe seperate from all the others and keep watching.

I haven't seen this yet so I'm not commenting on the show but the facts you stated above are not exactly correct
First there is nothing canon about with the holograms existed or not....in fact there's evidence of other alien races with different degrees of hollow technology specifically from the enterprise the series
Well I have a question are we talking about Federation holo decks or just hologram technology in general?
Same goes for the cloaking device, other alien races we're going to have them in the enterprise series and the Romulans were working on early cloaking tech during the series also.....although that one was a bit a mistake on the enterprise series regarding the Romulans

The holograms in discovery are holo communication. Luke those episodes o ds9, but they can walk every where on the ship and everyone seems to hav them as standard communication devices.

On a federation ship? Do they look like they did on the F9 what is the image similar to what we got in the early Star Wars films?

hey I'm not hating! I love the JJ..esque look of the show(complete with lens flare)
but yeah there are some that do hate the look of it(as well as some issues within the show...so far!) but they're probably just stuck in what's came before with the various tv shows & cannot accept the new change, for those...most just reply.... Well go watch The Orville instead!

They are shiney star wars style without flickering. Klingons have ds9 style ones. It's bizarre.
It's on Netflix outside us. But us has to view it on cbs all access.

Well if the Klingons have it like Dss nine it is certainly bizarre but it's not necessarily a break with continuity we never really saw enough of Klingon tech to be able to say for certain what they did or did not have
It also wouldn't be much of a shock to me there's a certain house came to the holo technology from another race and never shared it with the rest of the empire but again not having seen the show yet I'm just speculating

That's some fairly advanced technology they're developing, more so for the time period it's set in.

some interesting theories I've heard
either the shows about the origins of Section 31(hence Discovery's registry, black armbands seen worn by a few of the crew)
or
the whole shows set in the mirror universe?
