Transformers + bleach

Postby Dispensor » Tue Aug 07, 2007 1:46 am

Is it possible to completely bleach a transformer white? I was just thinking, wouldn't custom painting be much easier (if you want too paint from scratch, that is) with an all white toy? Or does bleach cause the plastic to deteriorate?

i think primering it down with white spray primer would do the trick, and im sure it is easy than bleaching it. i only think bleach works for clothes.

lol at you kids, thinking bleach makes everything white.

That said, I'm sure you could strip the paint off a TF with paint thinner, but I think the problem lies with the fact that some of the parts aren't painted; they're just that color.

Hey buddy, I'm thirteen years old. I've never even had a chemistry class.

That said, silly me.

watch out as paint thinner or other "cleaning" materials can make plastics etc. VERY brittle.. I've used stuff to clean the CD-markers off of a hard disk bracket only to find out that after cleaning the bracket plastic turns into a cheap kind of spaghetti and it breaks in an instant.

Sanding would be my option as you also need a good base for your new paint.

who ever said that i said that using bleach makes things white. if you could quote me on that it would be great. what would be even greater was if you actually read the posts ^
i was trying to help the kid out, not encourage bleach usage.... but seriously, white spray primer would be the way to go.... paint thinner would only soften and weaken the plastic. and like twee said, the plastic is usaully that of the color it is. meaning there was no painting involved, rather the plastic is the solid color.<<<< and the best way to change this color is to paint over it. hope it helps and good luck with whatever project you got lined up.

damn homie, chill out; for one, that wasn't even directed towards you, and for two, it was just a good old friendly ribbing and not a genuine insult.

that said, i like your idea. I'm not into custom paint jobs or whatever, but just in case I am, I'll have to keep that in mind.

Bleach would smudge it a little bit... just paint over, Bleach will wreck the toy.
