Binaltech or Alternators: Which do you like better

Postby necare » Thu Dec 06, 2007 8:23 am

I know that Binaltechs are more expensive because they use die-cast parts. Though I like Alternators better.

Even if the price points were the same for both I think I would still buy Alternators. The die-cast is nice from the standpoint that real cars and robots would be made out of alloys.

Though I think the weight of the metal and for the fact that there are many plastic joints and areas with the metal that the stress and weight make awkward figures in robot mode.

The Alternators are all plastic, make for a lighter figure and the pieces are all in perfect weight distribution.

I can overlook some areas where the plastic doesn't close perfectly in areas because these can be fixed.

So I would choose Alternators most of the time. Good thing too because Binaltechs are a wallet buster.

Anyone have an opinion on this? Which do you like better? Do you have more Alternators or Binaltechs. I have almost all Alternators but one Binaltech.

Alts(plastic sucks), I could get them domestic for $20 a pop.

Binaltech(and I love diecast) are just to much to import in lue of other facters in life.

I honestly prefer the Alts.

Though quite unlikely to happen, painted die-cast can chip.

I own a few BT figs and then never quite line up in Transformation as well as the alts.

I certainly understand why some prefer the BTs though.

I'm an Alt Man myself, cheaper, good plastic, no paint chips, parts line up.. and if you can get doubles, or opened versions on eBay cheap, easy Kitbash fodder...with Repro labels for support...

I wish Repro labels or some other company offered fan made bots art boxes, at a reasonable price, where you send them images of your bot, and they do a custom box for it so you can display your kitbash for friends in MIB... that would be cool..

For the characters I like, whichever I can get ahold of.

My BTA Red Alert already has some door chipping (and likely always has had it because he came in robot mode), which tends to sway me towards the Alts. But since he's the only Red Alert between the two lines... Had to have him.

Overall ... I prefer the alts.

sure, die cast is great and all ... especially on the S2000 and Mustang GT mold.

With that said, the alts don't chip ... and they are more poseable.

The BT vettes in particular, are really tough to pose for me. I'm not sure about everybody elses experience with them, but ... they really piss me off!

Also, the Wrangler mold is VERY top heavy in bot mode. My BT hound is sporting his reprolabels and looking mighty nice, but he's borderline crippled at the moment due to loose hip joints and a heavy chest.

What good is the better aesthetic value of a BT if one can't pose/display the figure how they would like to? It can be done, but it takes patience and a LOT of clear nail polish.

Alts. FTW. Put a clear coat on an alt, it looks darn near as good as a BT.

Binaltechs, they a far superior for displays. Look at Smokescreen, the difference makes the Alt version look like a cheap knock off.

Hmm ... I have a BT-07 and alts smokescreen. The alts version lines up better for me. The BT is also a pain in the ass to get back into car mode, but not the alt.

There are pros and cons to everything. I'm sure nobody is wrong here.

cheap knock off though? c'mon dude.

There is no clear-cut, which is better. But if both have the same mold, I would go with the Binaltech, especially in the case of JAzz. I don't want future yellowing on plastic!

I have BT Smokescreen BT-01...the figure goes back into car mode very well. I do not have the Alt. version of Smokescreen. I have both Alt & BT version of Silverstreak...the BT goes back into car mode better than my Alt. There are advantages and disadvantages to everything.

It actually depends on the character. For most of them, I just settle for the Alt. versions, because they're cheaper. But, for the ones I really like, I go for the BT because metal just looks better IMO.

Like Smokescreen, for instance, I prefer the BT-07 GT version, because the rally blue color just looks sooooo much better on metal than the plastic Alt, which I also have. When I first got GT, and I put him side-by-side with the Alt, I was shocked at the difference. And GT's joints are all tight, so I don't have a problem posing him. And he just feels sturdier, too. I love them both, but if I had to choose, it would be GT.

The other BTs I have are: Hound, Laserwave and Alert. And I just ordered BT Grimlock off BBTS. The Alts I own are: Smokescreen, Silverstreak, Nemesis Prime, Optimus Prime, Rumble, Ravage, Rollbar, Skids, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Rodimus, Prowl and Ricochet.

So, overall, I have way more Alts than BTs. Both have their pluses and minuses. To each their own, I say.

In terms of my collection, I am about 50-50 between the Alts and BTs. I have about 10 BTs and 13 Alts. Listing them will be insane.

Well, I will say that Diecast does feel better on some of the Binal Techs and looks good in colors..but it also gives that G-1 feel to it, and has a likeable and similar feel to Masterpiece Optimus Prime..so i can see why some like the Binaltechs as well.. and Had I they "Quan" to purchase both, i would get both..8)
