Okay, this has been bugging me since about the time we walked out of the theater and I turned and looked at my girlfriend and asked her "Did Optimus really just beg for his life there....?"

Rationally I keep telling myself that when Sentinel was about to kill him and he screams "no please" (or was it please no?) that it's him trying to get through to Sentinel one last time. But still.... that line made me feel weird about it all. It's so fantastically awkward for that line to even exist that it rattles my brain. :BANG_HEAD:

It's out of place, out of character, and out of context. It just... bothers me.

He might have been pleading with him to not go through with his plan to enslave the Human race and strip Earth of it's resources.

I think he should have said:

Like I said, rationally I would think this, which puts us in agreement at his intent. It's just a poopy line out of the blue and it bothers me. A lot. It baffles me they would let it be so easily misconstrued, if in fact we're correct about him trying to reach Sentinel and his morality. If they did mean it as him begging, well screw the writers. :lol:

I sorta liked the idea he was begging. Makes him a bit more believeable and less of a murdermachine of ultimate headless doom.

The whole Optimus character was across the board for me.

He seemed submissive to Sentinel (handing over the Matrix, pleading with him to stop, the line this thread is about) but then turns around and goes psycho killing Decepticons.

Characters that go on a killing spree like that tend to not be quick to relinquesh command to another I feel.

Movie Optimus is more than a bit psychotic. I think begging for his life and then immediately killing things is in his style.

Optimus yelled NOOoooo when Megatron killed him in the second film too. Whether was because he felt like he failed Sam or just really didn't wish to die is debateable. I'd tend think was a mixture of the two in both cases. Both guilt and fear of death. I mean unless he's crazy he shouldn't be wanting to die, so it's natural to fight against death in any way possible.

if there was a fourth movie i could see a heel turn for him
