Not necessarily related to BOTW, but I was thinking of getting A Link Between Worlds soon. Anyone in here played it?

Yes, what would you like to know? It's a good game and a good follow up to LttP. I enjoyed it quite a lot, but not my favorite LoZ. Definitely worth playing though.Autobot N wrote:Not necessarily related to BOTW, but I was thinking of getting A Link Between Worlds soon. Anyone in here played it?
Edit: the item acquisition is odd and doesn't follow the norm for a LoZ game. It was jarring to me but adds some interesting freedom to exploration.

1. How long is it? I've recently started a trend of buying a new 3ds game to play whenever I go on a vacation/trip, and I was hoping it'd be long enough to last me a 3-4 day trip.
2. How similar is it to The Wind Waker? I ask because WW is the only other Zelda game I've played.
Speaking of Wind Waker, maybe I should go back and finish my current file of it...

2: nothing like WW. It's a top down game much like LttP on the SNES. Plays just like it for the most part. New 3D graphics and some cool 3D effects, but looks like an updated LttP. WW is more like OoT or BotW if that helps.
I'd recommend either reading some reviews or watching some on YouTube. Even though I'm not found of Ign and I find their ratings questionable, I do like they video reviews when I'm in a hurry and want thoughts and gameplay at the same time. There might even be a "before you buy" video.
3: for the love of Primus go finish WW

Well, that's good. The last few times I've done this (with Fire Emblem: Awakening and Shantae and the Pirate's Curse), I ended up finishing them about halfway through the trip.carytheone wrote:1: honestly don't remember but depending on your habits it should take more than a week to finish
Ah, okay. That almost makes it better, in my opinion, since I've been looking for a new experience lately.2: nothing like WW. It's a top down game much like LttP on the SNES. I tend to share your opinion of IGN, but I'm somewhat fond of GameXplain, so I'll see if they have a video on it.I'd recommend either reading some reviews or watching some on YouTube. I've been wanting to. I started a new file of Wind Waker a few months ago, but I kinda just stopped playing it (mostly because of school). I've made a plan to complete a lot of unfinished games (a few Pokemon and Fire Emblem games, Wind Waker, and Super Mario RPG are the current ones on my list) before Christmas, since I'm asking for a bunch of new video games this year (my list currently inlcudes the DK Tropical Freeze port, ALBW, the Luigi's Mansion remake, and the new Spider-Man game, among a few non-video game items), and I'd like to have the unfinished ones out of the way before I get the new ones. School isn't making it any easier, though.3: for the love of Primus go finish WWI should follow suite on that as well. I was close back when it released on GC. I'm hoping for a Switch port of WWHD

Sounds like you play more than I do, so you may actually finish it before the trip is over. May wanna Google average hours to complete. There is a collectible thing to chase that adds things to do and IIRC they worth the trouble. Been a year or so since I've played and I haven't had the time to play a game more than once in over 20 years, so my memory is a little fuzzy on the game. I stopped worrying about finishing games years ago, once I squeeze all the enjoyment out of them I call it good. It's the journey not the destination I'm looking for.Autobot N wrote:Well, that's good. Hmm. Well, a website called HowLongToBeat said that the average completion time is 16 hrs. If I end up finishing it quickly enough, I could always play Luigi's Mansion 3ds as well.carytheone wrote:Sounds like you play more than I do, so you may actually finish it before the trip is over. A Link Between Worlds. I was planning to ask for it for Christmas, since my trip is in early January. What's ALBW?

I was thinking about 20 ish (which is main + extras), more if you're slow like me and like to dilly dally and it's rare for me to play more than 2 hours in a session while on a trip. Adulting and such.Autobot N wrote:Hmm. Well, a website called HowLongToBeat said that the average completion time is 16 hrs. I have the Luigi's Mansion as well on the 3DS,fun little game I need to get back into one day. The Switch is my go to portable for work trips where the 3DS makes the extended personal trips. The poor Vita sits at home sad with Zero Time Dilemma installed and unplayed. Which is a bummer as I really enjoyed the previous entry. Argh!

Do you mean Dark Moon, or the 3ds remake of the original that came out about 2 weeks ago (I was referring to the latter originally)?carytheone wrote:I have the Luigi's Mansion as well on the 3DS,fun little game I need to get back into one day.

Sad but true. Nintendo's basically got a monopoly on the handheld market, since Sony's only attempt failed and Microsoft hasn't even tried.and don't feel bad, so did Sony.

That IS an interesting factoid isn't it. I never gave much thought to that, but yeah. Nintendo's got that in the bag. I had the very first iteration of the PSP, but ignored it since. There wasn't a terribly large library from what I recall, and when new versions relied on downloads instead of buying discs/cartridges I was quite turned off. Besides Nintendo had me covered.Autobot N wrote:Nintendo's basically got a monopoly on the handheld market, since Sony's only attempt failed and Microsoft hasn't even tried.
As for the Switch itself... I LOVE this system. I really didn't expect to take to it so quickly, but I'm so happy I have one. My main issue with it however is the battery life. I'm not sure I can even get 4 hours out of one charge, and that's pretty weak if you ask me. I'd be willing to forgive this entirely, if there was a way to plug the damn thing in though. Which at the moment (to my knowledge) there's no official adapter to do such a thing. And I've heard horror stories about 3P accessories frying Switch's, so I'm only going with official Nintendo stuff. So seriously, how is there not a simple plug in wall adapter or car jack for this thing?

The Vita's library is small, but there are quite a lot of gems. Sony just didn't support the damn thing. The Switch is every thing Sony wanted the Vita and Ps4 to be.shajaki wrote:That IS an interesting factoid isn't it. I never gave much thought to that, but yeah. Nintendo's got that in the bag. Dude, the AC adapter for the dock plugs directly into the Switch as will any USB C, but I don't mess with unofficial power supplies either. The one thing I do need is an L USB adapter because that damn cable is uncomfortable to play with while plugged in.
I also love the Switch and I want all my games on it. If only I could transfer my D3 progress over I'd buy that game a third time!

Just a straight pass through L shaped adapter or 90°. That charging cable sticking straight out the bottom is uncomfortable, especially when I play in bed.shajaki wrote:Not gonna lie, I'm feelin pretty dumb right nowcarytheone wrote:Dude, the AC adapter for the dock plugs directly into the Switch as will any USB C, but I don't mess with unofficial power supplies either. Considering it's size a usb battery isn't a bad idea. Just gotta find one that has enough output. Also may be pricey.
