SoundWave remake

Postby Razten Mizuten » Thu Oct 11, 2007 3:18 am

I don't know how many of you are familiar with the Toys'R'Us special edition of SoundWave here in the UK, but I had a shock when I went into the store the other day. He cost about £25 (about $50)for one figure which wasn't too brilliant.
I mean he is a G1 remake and he does look stunning, but I choose instead to buy the Scorponok Blackout twin pack for only £5 more.
Why is SoundWave so expensive?

I'd wager it's because Hasbro knows he's popular and highly sought after. I think they're aware of the prices some people pay on eBay, etc. and thus calculate they can sell the toy for less but still charge a reasonably dear price.

The other thing is he is a good toy, especially for a G1 figure, and he has some endearing accessories (the cassettes, those little plastic cases, etc.).

Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to recall he also sold well in the US, which might have some bearing on the price over here.

I thought he did. I ordered mine way back when it got released in the US and paid about £17.95 including shipping. I've only seen a few here, though. Nothing like those images of TRU (at Times Square?) that had stacks of them.

The Times Square store though, is insane. It has gotta be the biggest toy store I've ever seen, by miles.

I've never been, sadly. My parents went there a few times, though, and picked up deluxe Armada Prime and 2003 TMNT Raphael. Bless them. I'd like to go!

It is definately a must see for a toy collector if in the US.

You should time a visit for nest spring. Maybe do a 3 for 1. Botcon, TF Animated figures and vaca.

i think its a good price, he is one of the few G1 figs that can stand next to the modern toys and not look out of place, plus you have to remember he comes wth 2 tapes, that would bump up the price, you are getting 3 TFs in one box

Does anyone know how much Soundwave originally sold for in the UK? Cos I've got a feeling that, allowing for inflation and him coming with an extra tape, £25 is probably about what he originally sold for.

He's a little expensive, but not too bad.

On another not, damn you and your sexy signature, Robo-Chugster! You're going to get me into trouble at work. I do appreciate the eye-candy though.

Motto: "Don't do drugs, beer's cheaper anyway!"
I don't think he's overpriced, I mean look at him.
He's as big as a voyager, he's bigger then Movie blackout, hecomes with two extra robots that are like basic sised, he contains diecast, he comes in a packing that just kickes ass.
I think he is a very good value, I was just too pleased to pay that price for him.

In that case, i wouldn't get him for more than $30 USD.

I paid AU$50 for mine (about 18 pounds), and was glad that he was only that much, as all the other Hasbro G1 re-issues had been between AU$60 and AU$80.

It's a popular figure, and an exclusive, so it's not like you could walk down the road and nab it from somewhere else.

That's a good point.

I'm afraid not, mine was fine. The only stickers I remember him having pre-applied were the faction symbol, rubsign and shoulder stickers, though. They're all smooth, anyway.
