Specific question for DOTM game story SPOILERS

SPOILERS about game story

I have been through the game but I can't remember and can't find reference online. In the level where you try to stop Starscream from launching the ship; what is the story behind that ship? It might be tied into one of the novels or comics. I don't think I remember it coming up again in the game.
