Takara BW Metals vs. Hasbro BW Transmetals

Hey guys

with many of the takara versions of the BW line being offered at BBTS, I was wondering if there are any big differences between the takara and hasbro releases that would warrant owning one over the other.

example, I am buying the takara release of Rampage and selling my hasbro version because the takara release has paint apps that emphasize the X on rampages back (which is cooler since he is protoform X)

information on differences for Transmetal Tarantulas, Fuzor Quickstrike, Transmetal Depth Charge, Inferno, Transmetal Rhinox would be great

I know I am asking alot but any help is appreciated

In every case, there are, perhaps, a few extra paint applications. There's really nothing too strikingly different.

Ideally I am looking for some specific notes on each mold.

The example I sighted with rampage isnt a huge difference cosmetically but to a BW fan, its a big deal because its more cartoon accurate.

Weapon: Turret Gun
all of them have the faction name tampographed on them rather than their indiviual names - and metals tarantulas has the visor painted like in the show rather than the eyes he has on the western release

woo hoo! another BW post! cant get enough of 'em. hahaha.

hoo kay. speaking of rampage, sure, the takara ver. has the big red X painted on his crab back, but you may notice that the takara vers.' chest plate is silver in color, whereas hasbro's has the more show accurate orangey one. me, preferably i think hasbro's release is more show accurate than the takara one.

ditto on the previous posts' tarantulas. otherwise same fig.

quickstrike...haven't seen takara release, sorry.
depth charge, i think same paint job, maybe takara has better apps (don't they always?)
inferno...no idea.
rhinox, same as post above.

Yup, I just got Tarantulas and the "visor" is one solid color instead of Kenner's (Hasbro's) separately painted eyes. You can still see the molded detail but at a slight distance the correct appearance is there. Also, Quickstrike has one or two more paint apps on the robot face. Those are the only specific differences I've noticed. I know Takara' Silverbolt has painted eye detail for his beast mode. Other than that, I don't notice the difference.

Hasbro TM Rhinox Transmetal color is green (+variants).

Takara TM Rhinox Transmetal color is BROWN. (Pretty cool actually)

Hope that helped!

(I'd like to know any more differences myself, since I only have Rampage, 'Ranty, and Rhinox Takara ones.)

Thanks for the help everyone, some tough decisions.

Rampage has the cool X with the takara version, plus some translucent plastic which I dig

but the hasbro version has orange on the body which is more cartoon accurate

Tarantulus isnt really a decision, I saw the painted visor on TRU.INFO and it looks like crap, last minute attempt at cartoon accuracy.

I prefer The Hasbro Rhinox

The only one who is clearly superior is quickstrike, the face detail is much more evident on the site

sucks that the takara versions only have either predacon or maximal stamped on them though.

What do you guys think, should I just stick to my Hasbro releases?

Quickstrike seems to have darker beast mode legs than Kenners.
They are still minty sealed and fresh though so I can't be sure.
The main advantage for the Takara is it's easier to put them in storage because of the box. You also get a collector card with the Takara version.

I think right now I am leaning towards keeping the hasbro releases. The imprinted name on the bodies is a big deal to me for some reason.

Do you guys know if the takara transmetal rattrap is a different colour than the hasbro release?

I have every rattrap ever made cept this one and I am wondering if the C43 takara version is worth getting?

Takara version looks like it has a more hot pink transmetal than the red transmetal from hasbro
hard to tell from photos

comments?

Actually I took a look at some BW footage from my collection, and the Takara version is the more cartoon accurate. the body plates do have a silver gradation on the show and the face detailing between the hasbro and takara rampage is no contest, takara is easily more 'toon accurate.

I thought you were right about the orange, turns out we were both wrong on that.

I am going to pick up the takara version, and sell my hasbro edition.

I will probably end up trading it at next years Transformerscon here in toronto. They have a parts trading party the night before the convention.

Any thoughts on the transmetal rattrap issue? Is the Takara release different from the hasbro release? I could swear it was a hot pink but with photos you never know.

No thoughts about the colors, but a warning about Hasbro TM Rattrap: It's going to be extremely difficult to find one that doesn't have the dreaded chrome flaking. They are not even immune while MOSC, one I have on card has had half of it's chrome fall off over time.

That sucks about the metallic chrome paint. My Transmetal 2 Dinobot is almost completely flaked off, but I have a Rapticon
MOSC that doesn't seem to have that problem. The paint looks real good until it starts to flake and all one can do is

All my TM Rattraps have held up really well, and I have 5 variations of the mold. I have heard of the Transmetal flaking but never had to deal with it, even with over 100 BW figs.

Regardless, I emailed BBTS about the Takara Hasbro variances on TM Rattrap. Hopefully they can shed some light on the subject.

Im sorta late to this party but I figure I should join in since it asked the very question Ive been asking. Takara vs Hasbro in BW. Takara is more show accurate right?

I have some hasbro ones but I bought takara ones and wanted to know if there were any major differences. Anyone have a list of which ones are more show accurate? I too just bought takara rampage because ofthe color apps.

not really. for example Takara TM Megatron has a ridiculous violet-pinklike shade of plastic whereas the Hasbro version is the more show accurate bronze. and Takara TM Rattrap has a purplish shade of chrome whereas the Hasbro (10th reissue) has the more show accurate crimson.

Ok boys and girls let me give you the lowdown. I have all Takara Metals and Hasbros Transmetals and i am here to tell you that the Metals are Way more show accurate than the TMs.
As said before, the Hasbros have the name of the character printed somewhere on the body, while the Metals have either Destron or Cybertron and their faction symbol next to it instead of their names. Metals Rampage is one of the absolute nicest things to come out of Beast Wars. When you have him in person he is so vibrant and beautiful compared to the Hasbro version.
Rattrap has a lighter red chrome colour almost a pink. But if you look at the cartoon or pictures closely it actually is that colour.
Megatron has a much darker copper tone to his appearance which makes him darker and much more menacing than the Hasbro version. This too, is more show accurate.
Metals Depth charge is exactly the same as Hasbros version it even has his name on him instead of 'Cybertron'

Basically, Takara was after show accuracy with these toys and they sure got it. For awesome toy reviews which point out the differences between both go to this site
