Does anyone have any ideas on removing the battle worn paint on these guys? I obviously know nobody has them in-hand, but I'm just curious.

Either use rubbing alcohol and a lot of rubbing

But do you really not want the weathering and battle marks?

Ugh, I really don't want that detailing to be a new standard. It isn't awful on everyone but Chromia looks chewed on :/

I get there are fans of that level of sculpted detail, I do. But at times the detailing just makes the figure look too busy. One reason I didn't like Studio Series Grimlock: simply too much. I guess it'll grow on me eventually with more figures following that train of thought.

That's why I like the movie toys so much, and especially Grimlock: the level and attention to detail.
And honestly, I'm very much attracted to the line because of the detail and battle paint. If we are truly going to do a "War" theme, both of those are great, it's why the movie toys, with the live action fierce brutal combat idea, attract me.
While I wish we were getting something close to the WFC/FOC games (especially if we could get a FOC Metroplex), the paint and detail are still good here, and in my opinion, a nice new refreshing feel.
I'm looking for parts, Help Me Out Please!

You are not alone, man. I too would purchase this grey version in a heartbeat. Siege UM level of detail is so insane, I almost forgot this is a figure is way under $100 and not some premium statue which cost over 1K. I don't recall seeing this amount of greeble in any TF before. The nice thing about the grey prototype/ monotone figure is that you appreciate the detail more in contrast to colors.
As a huge armor UM fan, this is like a dream...especially when that dream is a reality. I can't wait to have him in my collection. Take that MP22!! *I love my MP22 by the way*

Every day I fall more in love with Cog. Playability and tactile-ness ("handfeel", as Vangelus would call it) is a big part of a good robot to me, and Cog seems packed full of it.
Regarding the level of detail... eh. Personally I think using flat space to break up detailing can go a long way. Some like sideswipe do it pretty well, some like chromia start to look like the death star. I think for once the way that paint and colour tends to mask some detail might be a good thing.
Speaking of paint though, that battle damage... if it were more consistent I'd potentially be on board. As it is, it kinda looks like Optimus' thighs were in a fight, but his shins got out unscathed*, making it seem a little forced. I'll wait till we see in-hand, finalised figures to pass proper judgement though.
*(a made-up example, I've not actually checked Prime's legs)

Well to be fair, greebles are less obnoxious on a 3d, physical figure than trying to decipher 2d art.

I get the feeling though that the mass retail Magnus may not look like that and the paint will obscure the detailing...though it's nice to see they put the effort in.

Exactly, I wanted to say too. That's what this much mass of greeble looks like sometimes. Not to mention the dust that will be collected in all those grooves.
But regardless, since I already have a "perfect cartoon-accurate" Ultra Magnus I'm looking forward to this one with its two gimmicks/features (White Convoy + RID truck.)
Optimus Prime aside, I still haven't decided if I'm gonna buy characters I already have though, shelf space an' all.

Today I noticed that the battle marks on Hound's front bumper are the same on both versions of the toy in the picture below. So those copies seem to have been mass-produced. I think that indicates that those are the final versions.

Aaand I just noticed another funny detail about Hound or more precisely his packaging art (sorry, but I just can't stop looking at pictures this figure)
His head in the box art is actually Unicron trilogy Cybertron Defense Hot Shot's
I really wonder how those things happen or if this is an indicator that he will be retooled into Hot Shot

I chose pictures of Springer because the colorscheme is more similar.
