I thought he was cheering on IDW Blurr or is this supposed to be IDW Version 2.0 Blur?
As for what the line is about, well, let's imagine shall we...
Hasbro exec: Walmart need another exclusive tf line, and your going to give it to them!
Designer: okay...what's it about? I mean we doing original toys or what?
Hasbro exec: whatever we have in the budget and not a cent more!
Designer: so redecos then...
Hasbro Exec: no idea what you're talking about.
Designer: but it needs a theme! Why are we pulling these characters together?
Designer B: ohh Animated collection! We can redeco the Ark as Omega Supreme!
Hasbro Exec: you're fired...look, people like nascar and stuff, so do a race, but put more thought into it! Now I'm going for my elevenses at starbucks, I want you working on this non-stop!
Designer C: so...a inter-dimensional race?
Designer A: yeah, I'm thinking a race...

I dunno, I'm just going with it's an alternate universe IDW Blurr since the main IDW Blurr was killed by Unicron.

Honestly, I don't think anyone (from the designers to Sakamoto) even thought about that.

It's aaaaall person to person in the end. My personal issues that make the over all flaw with Burn Out is the Powers didn't even see fit to color his hands just like his G1 counterpart and, and, and....that freaking choice for his head.....

I know that, I just wish she was part of the actual figure. Even if she didn't actually transform and just rode the vehicle mode. A stronger nod to the mecha nature of the Diaclone line.

Based on what? These figures dont have any bios on the boxes and the Skids mold dosnt even look remotely female. Without something on the packaging, some established fiction to go off of (no, a designer interview dosnt count), or a clear visual indicator of what gender a figure is, I think we are free to decide for ourselves whether the figures on our shelves are male or female.

BotCon 2015 Burn Out is a mech yes, but its pilot Dia (who came with BotCon 2015 Sergeant Hound) is female. The rest is extrapolated from that.

Botcon fiction & bio (which is how Burnout even became a TF character in the first place), the designers referred to her as "her" for the entirety of the Velocitron reveal stream, and her appearances in comics since then have either preserved the use of female pronouns or just never addressed her by anything other than name.grimdragon2001 wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Burn Out is female.Nemesis Destron wrote:It's aaaaall person to person in the end. Didnt know about Botcon 2015's bio, so my bad there. I do think HasTak needs to be held to a higher standard when it comes to female Transformers figures though. We know they can make fantastic female figures now so repainting a male figure and calling it female dosnt work as well for me anymore. Just seems even more lazy than the usual repaint.

Luckily for you, Burn Out's Masterpiece looks to be getting more feminine features that are also closer to the original Diaclone toy. The MP is even being named "Dia Burnout" in reference to Dia, her Diaclone pilot from the BotCon toy.grimdragon2001 wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Burn Out has been female since 2015.grimdragon2001 wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Burn Out is female.Nemesis Destron wrote:It's aaaaall person to person in the end. Dia is also seen in the two-page Japanese manga for the Velocitron line that was newsed earlier, in which she appears as Burn Out's holographic avatar driver (and as a repurpose of the Nightstick that comes with Selects Artfire).

Just curious why the people making the figure wouldn't count? The creators should always be considered the highest authority on the character they've made. These same designers are the ones that decided that Road Rocket is female now and that seems to have stuck with the comic showing fellow female ninja Nightbird cheering for her instead of a fellow Autobot ninja like Greatshot or Sixknight.
The comic also calls her out as Dia Burnout like the MP.

How many people are going to watch those interviews vs how many will be picking up the toys? Most will interpret things visually, by what's directly in front of them at the time, so even previous fictions might not mean much if the person holding the figure isn't aware of it. If a figure looks male, people will see it as male.
On the flip side of it, there are cases like Road Rocket, or Override/Nitro Convoy, who have fiction portray them as genders opposite of what the current designers say they are. Road Rocket being male in some Comics, like TFCC Magazine and Override/Nitro Convoy's gender depending on if you prefer the Japanese or American version of the character. Both of the new figures having a masculine appearance will also have an impact on how they are viewed.
Designers can say what they want, but how their works are interpreted is up to those who behold it.

It's Nightbird who's cheering for Road Rocket because the Legends manga already established Nightbird as the mentor of both Road Rocket and Road Pig.Emerje wrote:These same designers are the ones that decided that Road Rocket is female now and that seems to have stuck with the comic showing fellow female ninja Nightbird cheering for her instead of a fellow Autobot ninja like Greatshot or Sixknight.
And Sixknight is still dead, so he wouldn't be around anyway.

And Transformers has so many Canons that it could kick sand in both DC and Marvel's faces.
It is better though if what designers or writers say in interviews that isn't put into official fiction not be considered canon, otherwise every comment Ken Penders ever made about how characters in Archie Sonic were and interacted that wasnt in those comics would be considered canon, and I really dont want that to be the case.
