I'd rather keep figures with their respective lines on shelves, but for certain characters that we'll never see an MP release I don't mind letting them stand in. Most of the Generations Voyagers fit pretty nicely, especially Blitzwing, Springer, and Brainstorm. Roadbuster and Whirl are OK, but I'd rather they were a bit bigger, at least Seeker size. For me to go with Jetfire he'd have to be at least as tall as Ultra Magnus. CW Constructicons will probably work best as Devastator, not so sure about individuals.

As far as 3Ps go are there any that really do work as MPs? I can't say I've seen too many that actually impress me, I feel the term MP is tossed around way too easily when it comes to 3Ps. Most seem to be too out of scale, too off model, or too simple. If I'm going to pad the line it'll be with $25 Transformers, not $100 imitations, not when I don't spend that much on the real MP cars.

I think Quakewave is the only 3rd that almost got me...but the price tag quickly scared me back to my senses.
