Would you buy non transformable model kits if Hasbro imported them or made them posable toys?

Would you buy non transformable model kits if Hasbro imported them or made them posable toys?

Postby skywarp-2 » Thu Oct 11, 2007 2:36 pm

What if Hasbro bought the license to distribute those model kits for release domestically through Wal-Mart and other such Hobby stores, effectively lowering the cost of the kits, and making them available for wide release to fans, would you be interested?

I think they would do well here in the U.S., and I would certainly buy them, especially if they were in Wal-mart and sold for like $40.00. They would be cheaper cause of the bulk prices that the large Manufacturer's could purchase them at, and not to mention Hasbro's use of the mold.

But this is also what I was saying awhile back about them doing a non transformable toy of these characters in a 6 inch scale, not like those crummy and crappy Robot Replicas, but large marvel legends sized figures with possibility and extreme cartoon likeness..

I know, I know, why buy a toy that doesn't transform?? Well, there are some of us who like the robots themselves, and wouldn't mind a nice decent toy of just the bot, to pose and have a 3d representation of that character without any compromises for the altmode or gimmicks.. still as a model you have to paint it's one thing, but then again why not a toy line like Marvel legends based on these molds??

Galvatron Model kit:

Preorder through BBTS
http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/prod ... ode=retail

Here is what the preorder says:
This is an unpainted model kit that requires assembly and can be painted. This kit is licensed by Takara Tomy and made by a newly formed company called Arianhod. An Extremely limited number of this kit will be sold at the Japanese Super Festival. The kit is a ‘full action’ model kit with moveable joints and articulation, no glue is required, but there may be some minor trimming of parts or other basic modeling skills needed. There are 26 total pieces in the kit and Arianhod will follow this kit up with Bludgeon and Thunderwing as their next releases. The kit will be packaged in a full color box with artwork. The kit stands roughly 6” tall and is in scale with Hasbro ‘Deluxe’ sized items.

UPDATED IMAGES - PLEASE NOTE: We've just added an image of the box art, and also an image of the model kit after it has been painted and assembled. Please remember that this kit does not come with paint and all pieces are unpainted.
Product Number: AHD10000

Now another good mold is the plastic Hot Rodimus Statue that you can order online as well.. which if hasbro imported would make a nice model kit, all they would have to do is incorporate some gears into the legs and arms for articulation purposes, and whammo!! a nice articulated Robot figure model or Marvel Legends type toy..

Now keep in mind these would be modeled after the TV show appearances and be just toys or models and not Transformable, but would be very posable and fun to display in fight scenes..

what do you guys think??

Imagine these as toys like Marvel legend's size, on your shelf fighting it out, with a Matrix on a Chain around Galvatron's neck.. with Rodimus about to grab it.. what a cool toy diorama scene that would be..!!

Wow, those look great. Do they transform though?

Just kidding. If cost was WAAAAAAY lower, I say 25USD, I'd consider, but I have a hard time paying for regular TF's as it is.

Nope.

The Mega PVC figures failed and I think these would too.

No matter how it's packaged, non-transforming Transformers are failure incarnate.

You sold me at "extreme cartoon likeness"! I do actually own the PVC figures of Megatron and Starscream. I also have seen a Armada Starscream PVC figure I'm currently looking for. (If anyone has the exact name of this Japanese figure, please let me know!)

I would buy the model kits. You see, when I buy a Transformer, I'm not just buying a cool transforming robot toy. I'm buying a character. In fact, if I hate the character or his bio, I'm much much less likely to buy the toy. Even if it's a cool one.

my thoughts exactly, its the character I love just as much as transformation.. the Star Scream is the same name they are called Megs SCF I believe..

I strongly disagree with you there.. yes their initial concept is that these toys are to Transform, but if they produced fully articulated toys in a Marvel Legends scale, with good Paint Applications and articulation with extreme likeness to the cartoon, I think they would do well.. and the Robot Heroes line is doing well (though i still don't like em).. the Mega PVC toys were crap, good for the day, but by Revolltech standareds they now suckass, the Robot Heroes in My opinion are crap, and the PVC little slightly posable figures are also crap..

these model kits and statues are great, but they are Just models and statues, not fully playable toys made like Marvel legends figures for display and such...

If Hasbro were to do a series of maybe just 4 figures, which included Megatron and Optimus Prime, Hot Rodimus, and the Galvatron kit I have pictured above in a 6 Inch scale toy, with great Paint Applications and marketed them under the banner of a catchy toy name, then I would definitely buy them.. all the other PVC series you site that have come before were crap really, and are not what I'd consider on par with this idea or concept I have suggested. The fact that the Galvatron toy is such a good representation of the original cartoon model is proof enough..

here is another good example of a cool PVC character, and if this one mold was included in what I propose, I would say it would need to be 8 Inches in scale to accentuate the actual size of him...

if you look at the scale of the box for Dai Atlas you can clearly see he's a good size..already, which as a M.A.S. (Mega Action Series) figure I'm quite interested in seeing more From Cm Corp..

I don't think this toy is a failure by any means...

If Hasbro were to jump on this bandwagon and produce a Marvel Legends line up like this for Transformers, they would have a winner on their hands, especially for the collectors!!!
Image
Image

My Point is...

Hasbro could do well with Non transfroming toys based on their characters if they were done right..to date they have not, and only specialty companies who produced the Revoltechs and CM Corp's Dai Atlas have even come close to what a Good posable figure of a Transformer should be.... in that medium..

It all depends on which characters they release, I wouldn't go on a mad collecting spree and get every single one. But I will buy anything that materializes with Skywarp's name on the box. :P

So a whole line of them wouldn't be a great seller with me personally.

I might buy one or two, but I prefer my transformers to transform. And we've had highly detailed and articulated TFs that do just that.

That said, I did get a Revlotech Prime as a present and I like him. I also got Mega PCV Screamer as a present and I like him ... if only because it reminds me of how happy I was to see him die. :D

The point of buying Transformers is because they transform.

So, in my case, NO.

well, the toys like a Marvel Legends figure would be alot bigger then PVC toys that came before, and granted I like transformation, but I wouldn't mid some figures in my collection that were just great examples of them in robot mode..

Still if hasbro went the Model route instead of PVC toy, I would buy them as well.. some one mentioned Decals, which i think would be cool.. especially for kitbashing or doing your own model repaints.. Like Galvatron, for example, I would love to repaint that guy into the G-1 style Megatron with silver, red and Black.. I think that would look really cool.. and if they had lots of different decals with faction symbols and stuff, that would rule as well.. i just like having the options..

I, for one, don't like decals. I prefer the decorations to be painted or molded into the plastics.

Decals are a horrible problem in old G1 toys.

If they had the posability of a Revoltech and the detailing of a Legends figure I'd probably buy a few. I love transforming toys but I'm not 8 years old anymore, I don't sit there and transform them constantly. My TFs go into my favorite mode, get posed and stay that way. A non transforming figure really doesn't bother me that much.

Basically save Hasbro some moolah having them assembled.

as much as I enjoy alt modes and transformations, you will never get a decent looking megatron or galvatron. Which is why i like my revoltechs so much. Give me an accurate revoltech galvatron and im sold (or that model).

Optimus
Megs
Galvatron
Screamer
Hot Rod
Soundwave
Magnus

would be the only ones i would consider buying, and even then not a chance for more than 20-25

that galvatron does look amazing though...
