AFA Grading & Other Resources

Postby Stylz » Sun Dec 29, 2019 11:09 pm

I recently acquired several G1 (84-86) MISB and MOC Transformers. I'm not a collector and will be looking to sell. I'm wondering if anyone here has any resources you wouldn't mind linking regarding finding fair pricing. I've poked around these forums as well as the web and haven't found much. So far I'm relying on other ebay listings and they vary wildly.

I also noticed most of the higher priced items on ebay almost all have been AFA rated. Checking the AFA site, the prices for rating seem pretty expensive. How do you guys feel about non AFA rated purchases? Do you have a dollar value after which you wouldn't buy an item if it's ungraded?

I appreciate any feedback. Thanks! :D

eBay is going to be the most accessible place to find pricing. You can also look around the Facebook Transformers groups for a general idea on prices as well. Facebook doesn't generally fetch as high of prices as eBay, but fees are generally smaller as well.

Obviously prices can vary quite a bit based on a number of factors, including:

1) Authentic or reissue
2) Condition of the packaging
3) Popularity of the character
4) Variant?

AFA MAY be worth considering, depending on what you have. If your stuff is all in amazing condition, some people might pay a significant premium for an AFA figure, especially for the bigger names. If the items are just okay, AFA grading probably isn't worth the trouble.

Motto: "New England TransFormers Collectors Group member"
I would also suggest, unless you already are aware, not to check eBay List prices but use the "Sold" feature to see what Actual prices people are paying.

I didn't consider Facebook, I'll check out some groups. Having more info is always better. It's looking like I'll need to look into getting several of them graded. It just seems like a slow and expensive process. :(
