I don't have a problem with the character so much as the mold. The Classics Optimus Prime mold was a good one but is there anyone that doesn't have at least 3 versions of it by now? I thought all the Ultra Magnus repaints were pushing it.
Really, only Seeker molds can get away with going back to the well again and again. And I wonder if even that would be the case in any other toyline where one mold was used so many times.
I really would've liked to see a newer mold utilized. Even if they used a different Prime mold for Ginrai. After all, they can write the supporting fiction any way they like to explain it.

*sheepishly raises hand* Only the original release of Classics Optimus Prime. It was a struggle for me to get one. Found my break after seven years waiting for one to pop up at a respectable price (like $50), and he was clearly somewhat beat-up (chipping paint on his little arm details, a miniscule amount of rust and wear on the smokestack SMG). Ginrai would be my second version, if I end up getting this set (which I really hope to).

I don't own any version of it. None. Which is 1 of the reason why I offered earlier to split the cost of a set with someone. I'll take Ginrai and Ferak, the other person can have the other 3.

Kinda disappointing, especially after such a long wait. You follow up Scorponok with this?
Agreed, I got concerns on this mold and it's over-use considering Cloud OP on the horizon. There is no denying how amazing it really looks but c'mon "powers that be"...really? I think G2 deluxe Laser Prime should have been considered. After all they did re-release Shattered OP using this mold so you know...what the hell.

I'm looking at Fansproject to head this one up and doing some major re-tooling on the armor upgrade that was created for this mold indeed. We'll just have to see what lies ahead I suppose.

I'm sure this appeals to some fans, but it just weighs on me. I'm buying an Iacon Package so I can have my Scorponok, but want none of the others. They will be eBay bound.

I think Xovergen did really well with the Trailerforce for this mold, it almost made me buy a Classics OP just so I can get the trailer. Ended up passing on it. The robot mode never impressed me at all, and I couldn't justify getting it just to have another Prime. This being part of BotCon kinda puts it over the hump, even though I don't care for that orange. Maybe Xovergen will re-color the Trailerforce into the Fire Guts Ginrai, though I doubt it, as I mentioned earlier. There won't be enough of the BotCon version produced to justify another limited run for the Trailerforce, even if it's just a redeco.

I didn't think they would do that, considering Cannonball's color scheme. It would have been too much of the same.

Looking over BotCon's Twitter, we can guess what at least one of the souvenir sets will have:
And this Tweet suggests that the souvenirs could celebrate BotCon itself:
Swords will be available in souvenir packs

Whoops. Sorry. I guess I stand corrected.
I still think the mold is a little overused. Maybe if this figure was in one of the two packs, I wouldn't mind, but it seems like a letdown for the boxset.
Of course, if they went totally nuts and did a threepack three-color deal like they did with the Rainmakers last year, using this mold. I'd totally be on board for that.

So either characters who've been represented in previous BotCon stories before whose features includes swords, or previous BotCon characters who come with totally new-mold, original, never before-released swords?

oh man, it is wild to see a writer from the 80s cartoon actively interested in the franchise's merchandise. If this is actually Mr. Hall, this is a guy that actively deserves the figure.
I'm a fan of Devcon, myself, and have been waiting for one to go with my Universe Smokescreen. Can't afford the box set, sadly, but I would totally pick one up individually.
Maybe we can hope for a retail release someday? Obviously not with this mold or headsculpt, but still. It'd be nice.

One pack could possibly even just be a set of sword accessories on their own, like how OTFCC 2004 had Energon Spear weapon exclusives.Mindmaster wrote:So either characters who've been represented in previous BotCon stories before whose features includes swords, or previous BotCon characters who come with totally new-mold, original, never before-released swords?
