Heavy Duty Storage Shelves for my TFs ... any recommendations?

Hey everyone,

I just moved into a new apartment. My Transformers finally have their own room. In order to get the galleries back up and running as soon as possible, I'd like to get the TF room organized so that I can get my photogallery setup in place again. The room is plenty big enough to store all of the boxes of boxed Transformers (the largest boxes are the size of a 19" CRT Monitor box from Dell or wherever) as well as the 15 Rubbermaid tubs full of all of my loose figures (can't remember if the tubs are the 25 gallon or 31 gallon tubs).

The TF room is probably around 10x10 or something like that and has a pretty high ceiling ... I think it's around 11 feet (it's 11'4" in the living room and seems like it's a little shorter in the bedrooms).

Ideally, I'd like to come up with some shelving solution where the shelves have wheels on the bottom of them which would enable the tubs and boxes to be a few rows deep. Then I could just slide a row of shelves out of the way so that I could access whatever it is that I'm trying to get to. I'd like the shelves to have a depth of about 25" to 30" and each row be wide enough to fit about 4 tubs.

One of these days, I'll have a big enough place that I can have some figures on display and have a basement or garage or something dedicated to storing my Transformers. In the meantime, I've got to work within the restrictions that I have. Obviously, my primary goal is to keep all of my figures easily accessible so that I can continue doing galleries and comparison shots.

Before I go out and spend a bunch of money on shelving that isn't right for this kind of a project, I guess I'd like to hear what kind of suggestions you guys have for shelving. I'm open to suggestions such as Rubbermaid shelving, wire frame shelving, galvanized steel shelving, etc. Maybe one of you has a great setup for storage of your figures that you could share with the rest of us with extremely large collections.

I would also prefer not to spend an arm and a leg on this shelving. If I have to, I have to. I also recognize the fact that to make these shelves mobile (with wheels), that I will probably have to build some kind of a wheel system to sit the shelving on off the floor. I'm OK with that if that's needed.

Some heavy duty storage shelving ideas that struck my fancy ...

I have one of these from Costco. They are very sturdy shelves and seem to match what you are looking for at a decent price.

Costco shelves

My local Costco stocks them. For $70 it is one of the best deals I have found.

That is definitely along the lines of what I'm thinking. However, it doesn't seem like the depth is deep enough to accommodate the large boxes and Rubbermaid tubs. Do you happen to have a picture of your collection in storage on these shelves?

The first one from Rubbermaid is similar to mine except I picked mine up at Lowes and they are 5 Teir and just a tad cheaper.

The thing I liked about the ones I have are they are not vented (makes it much easier to display loose figures) like the majority of the Rubbermaid stuff I have seen.

I don't have a link to them online but they are in store.

These shelves are great. Very heavy duty. I think each shelf can hold about 500lbs.

The depth is 18 inches, and the space between each of the 6 shelves is 12 inches high. You get about 5 inches of space on the bottom between the floor and first shelf. It is on wheels.

I got this shelf because it fits perfectly inside a standard bedroom closet, with enough room on the side to stack larger tubs. If you had 15 qt containers, you could probably stack them 2 high and 4 across, giving you 8 per shelf, plus 4 along the bottom. The 15 qt containers are pictured with the green label on one of them.

I know the closest is a mess, but I didn't do any cleaning for you

do you have the option of installing tracks on the walls to be able to mount shelves, seibertron?
