The Transformers state of play

Is Titans Returns toys really any good ? (if you like them)
or
Is Titans Returns really a bad line (if you don't like them)

What I mean is - how does the line actually stack up against the last few years lines.. is it better or worse or the same ?

I love Transformers Prime - but I will admit they did often have some important paint apps missing on the toys - But they were not yet getting super gappy - but they were pretty small.

I wonder are we getting a bit more gappyness as a trade off for a tiny bit more paint ?

And yet many of the Titanmasters have almost no paint on them at all - not even painted eyes. Blurr is the poster boy for missing paint I guess.

Yet there are some elements of the decoration on both Brainstorm's I can't help but admire.

Yet there is an element of enhanced playability on show here with the Titanmaster interaction and extensive use of Triplechangers.

But I look at the RID line and what they call a "Mini-con" and can't help but compare them unfavourably to the 2003 version - perhaps even unfavourably to the Arms Microns too.

I'm in two minds - what do you *guys think.

I don't think we've had solid toyline in the U.S. since Thrilling 30. However, unlike Combiner Wars, there are a few TR figures that I think are worth picking up. Wheelie looks quite decent, as well as Hardhead and Chromedome. They've got decent paint application, gaps aren't an issue, and they have some interesting play-ability with the Headmaster concept billing return. I wouldn't personally encourage collecting them all, but I would recommend shuffling through the selection and picking a couple that peak your interest.

He's actually got quite a lot of paint, it's just distributed so that most of it is only seen in car mode. The problem is that his robot mode is pretty monochromatic, compared to how he's typically portrayed. I think it looks nicer in person (where there are some more subtle color changes your eye might pick up better than a camera) but I also agree it's not the best it could have been. I'm not sure more robot paint would have been the way to go or if they should have used more different plastic colors. Takara's version is awesome, but in person I like Hasbro's too, just gotta ask if the Takara import tax is worth it to go from good to better.
