Todays Walmart Experience - alts and brats

Postby Vegitron » Thu Sep 06, 2007 3:55 pm

Motto: "Run away! Run away!"
I went to Walmart to pick up some auto supplies, and of course I start off in the toy section. First the Transformers isle, then the clearance sections, and then the rest. To my surprise I found an Alternators Jaguar XK Ravage sitting next to the Mr Potato Primes! I couldn't believe it! I immediately went a second round to see if I could find anything else, but there was nothing. Well almost...

There were 4 Ultimate Bumblebees for $80 which I'm not going to buy at that price. Well some little kid sees them and immediately HAS TO HAVE IT! At first his mom said no. Then the tears started falling. Then the crying started. Then the pouting. Then the shouting! And guess what? Mommy starting giving in. First she says maybe his uncle could buy it later. Then she says maybe when his birthday comes. But he wanted it NOW. Finally she relents and buys the thing and tells the kid it's for his birthday which probably isn't for another 6 months.

Honestly, I'm jealous. :)

Irony. Hasbro makes a $10 figure for kids and all the older collectors just have to have it. Hasbro makes an $80 figure for older collectors and all the kids have to have it.

Dang it what is wrong with people. Early on I was made to realize that pouting and tantrums were the least likely means of me being able to get what I want. Why do so many parents give in?

Trust me, if my child pulled that in the store they most definitely would not be getting a toy. They'd probably get escorted to the bathroom for a little talk on how we behave in public instead.

My mother left me at a TRU once for throwing a tantrum. Believe me, when you're running around the store in a blind panic wondering where your mommy went, you learn real quick that your course of action was not the best choice to have made.

All the rest of the times I just got busted in the lip because those were the days when beating your child was not only socially acceptable, but was often encouraged.

That's a brilliant idea in theory but there's too many weirdos out there now to turn your back on your kid in a store let alone walk away from them.

Congrats on finding Alt Ravage. I noticed a stock pile of scions back on the Local Wal-mart shelves.

I don't care if people look funny at me, if/when I have kids and they pull that **** at a retail store, I'm beating them in public.

I guess I lucked out because my godson never throws a fit at any stores, he just hustles me....it goes like this;

"Jack, can I have Bumblebee?"

"I dunno buddy, you got Jazz yesterday."

"I'll read two books for school!"

Dammit...hustled again and the kid gets Bumblebee. To his credit though he read his two books before even asking to open Bumblebee!

You could hide around a corner (like a shelving unit) where the kid will be in plain sight, but you won't be. It happened to me when I was a kid (unintentionally, I just wasn't paying attention) and it scared me enough that I just basically remained quiet the rest of the trip.

I remember getting distracted toy section once upon a time and my mom didn't notice (or did she :-? ) and kept on walking. I didn't see untill later where I thought she'd left me and went running after her checking aisles as I went till

Wraaaag!!

I ran right smack into one of the enormous steel support columns for the building. Busted my lip too. Knew to keep mom in eye shot or be certain we knew where the other was going form then on.
