i used to love em and my friends and me would duel for hours. then one of my friends became a complete ass hole, and the other stole my moms card that was selling for $30 on eBay and he sold it at our local card shop for five bucks. and i lost two friends. and sold every card i owned for $70. and it has been three years since i have played. and am getting in to it again. so what did i miss? any new rules( i still remember all of the old ones) and one of friends told me that there is a new type of monster called syncrose or some thing? and what other new decks did i miss? FYI i dont watch the show. in my opinion it sucks, the game is as far as i go. and every one in my family played but my dad. and yes my mom too she is the one that taught me how to play. and my brothers.

I have never played Duel monsters not even once but I love collecting the cards. In fact I was looking a lot of them over last night.

What I've been noting of the boosters I've got in last two months there's a lot of emphasis on counters on cards.

I love both Japanese and English (later is dubbed to overkill but it's the first YGo exposure I had) anime(s) and the Manga. Sadly store were I used to get the manga closed.

I just sold all of my friend's cards a few days back. Man, he had the duel disk and everything.

My bro and I used to do tourneys and everything. We quit about 1.5 years ago and sold all our super rares for $350. (guess where my half of the cash went ) He got back in a bit and we keep a few decks around, he gets updated stuff trading with warhammer pals. I haven't kept up tons with all the new ban lists, but basically, it's almost balanced now. Anything that was ridiculous (change of heart, dark hole, etc.) is gone. The only "uber" card that's legal (by proper standards) is Monster Reborn, pretty much anything that has a powerful single effect or decent mass effect is, in effect(sorry, had too) gone, unless it's gimmick related. Which brings me to my next point.

Gimmicks work now. That's all that works. Ancient Gear, Dark, crystal beast, whatever, they all are more viable than ever. The days of the "toss one of everything that gives you advantage" decks are over. I can win 65% of the time at shops and stuff with a Battery Man deck now. Granted, I haven't done tournament caliber for a while, so I don't know how that is, but if you're going to do "legit" playing, you don't need to get all the $10+ stuff anymore. Now if you're playing free for all without the ban list, then it's the same old "toss one of everything that gives you advantage in a pile and call it a deck".

And yes, the shows always sucked terribly, but this is awesome.
