anyone miss Babylon 5?

Welcome to the General Discussion area where just about anything goes! This area is designed to discuss all matters and does not necessarily have to be Transformers related. Please keep topics relevant.

I did not see a resemblence between DS9 and Babylon 5 besides the space station. I like both shows although spike TV really played DS9 to much. Now it seems they are on a Voyager kick.

I started out as a Trek girl myself... I have fond memories of sitting on the couch watching reruns of the original series with my dad. The Next Generation is my sentimental favorite, but DS9 I think is the best out of all of the Treks. It had flawed characters that changed and grew over time (instead of the infamous Trek Magic Reset Button), ongoing story arcs, solid writing, and showed the dark side of war and the Federation.

But, well, Babylon 5 did all that first, and in many ways better. :> I find that while I still love Trek, Babylon 5 sticks in my head a lot more. So many awesome characters, quotable dialogue, intense/memorable scenes, and even sharp humor.

My condolences.

Don't get me wrong, I like Star Trek. But there is that whole plagarism thing going on.

Time travel? Done by Doctor Who. (In fact it's amazing how much ST ripped from DW)

Ongoing story arc like DS9? Done by Babylon 5.

Um, nothing in B5 compares to DS9.

Anyway, there are so many common themes in sci-fi, that it all starts to resemble one another. But millions of Trek fans can't be wrong!

Before DS9, Star Trek was more of a single episode story thing with the occassional multi-episode.

Babylon 5 came along with an on-going story arc and DS9 adopted that with the Dominion War.

Who says DS9 adopted that from B5? I think they wanted to go a different direction than the previous two shows did, and make it considerably darker (and infinitely better). I've been a fan of Star Trek for over ten years, and Babylon 5 was on air right in the middle of it. I really did try to enjoy it, giving it several chances. I'm not saying the show sucks or anything, I'm just saying it wasn't for me. Perhaps now, eight years after the last I've seen of B5, I'd be able to enjoy it more.

The fact that DS9 started doing it around the time B5 entered it's third year. ;;)

You jealous. DS9 had Garak and that immediately disqualifies B5 from being better. 8)

We still watch Star Trek TNG and DS9 even though we can read the first few words in the info detail and say what the show is all about. When DS9 first came out I did not care for it. When Spike TV picked it up in 2004 I was hooked though.
