A guy I know did something like that-
when the u2 album , "How to defuse a nuclear bomb" was released in Dublin there were people queuing up for hours to get it. So my mate, with an advanced copy, blank cds and a laptop started making copies and handing them out for free!
It was one of the greatest things ever, If i had of had a camera with me i would have gotten an entire exhibition outta that day!

All of the bookstores where I live got mad at me because I walked into their backrooms looking for the Harry Potter books. I think I'll try again today.

If that were me, the CD would have been just the first track and then me saying, "Get back in line, sucker!"

I stayed away from the pages.
I'm re-reading 5 (now) and then 6, before I read 7. God, I forgot how many details there were, and how many they left out of the movie that were rather important (and 4 also).
I just started the first one today and am 1/3 of the way through it. I rather enjoy it and wish I had read it soon.
Yeah, I find I don't enjoy 1 and 2, as much as 3 and above...too kiddie maybe? Not enough action? Maybe I should read it again too.
I finished the first book and am now starting the second.

Well I got mine, haven't even started on it though.
I expected more people lined up, I got there about 45 mins before the shop opened and less than a dozen had taken up camp outside the door (dunno if they slept there overnight, doughtful as it was a shopping centre). The nerd power however seemed to be more powerful than the nerd power I witnessed at the Australian premiere of Transformers.
Saw two girls dressed up as Hogwart's students, later on I saw a younger boy.
And then later it was funny to see people walking around either hugging the book to their chests, reading as they walked, or parked on one of the many benches reading.
And yes, this was the first time I attended the release of a Harry Potter book so it was all an experience to me.

Can we change this to a proper review thread and change the title so that it'll have definite spoilers in it? I tried to make a reviews thread considering this one is about the *internet leak* and not exactly a spoilers thread, and got directed here, being told that this was the *correct* place to post my review.

Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

I forgot about those two. Although the second doesn't matter. The first one you reminded me of annoyed me though. J.K. was really free with her killing of characters.

My repost from after I finished the book yesterday:
Spoilers, obvz.
I just finished it, and I have to say that I really did enjoy it.
She still can't string a sentence together for ****, but storywise it was definitely very enjoyable. The section when Harry, Hermione and Ron return to Hogwarts through to almost the end really shone. The action was great.
HEDWIG DIES.
I think the most rounded character to come out of the whole thing was Snape. And I didn't hate Draco (though after Half Blood Prince, I didn't so much either)! It was clear he'd gotten in over his head. The part where Harry saves him from the fire, well, I was really cheering for Harry to save him.
I also totally cheered when Neville pulled the Gryffindore sword from the Sorting Hat and owned the snake.
Some of the things I did have problems with were:
- Exposition!Dumbledore in the second last paragraph. But that's just poor writing.
- How unnecessary some of the deaths felt. Remus & Tonks for example, just felt like she killed them to boost the bodycount by the end of the story.
- Fred's death seemed to be completely brushed off. In fact, in the whole series the only death that was given any kind of impact was Dumbledore. Even Sirius was all "oops, fell through the veil & dead now, sry".
That's all I've got for now. No doubt I'll manage more once I've talked about it/had a chance to think about it more.

The world has learned that if you kill a hero (*ahem, Optimus Prime in Transformers the Movie*), the public tends to react badly.

It would have given her an excuse to keep writing. If you can call that "writing".

Im not a huge fan of Harry potter, but I read the final book, it took me longer than it took me to read #5, mainly because of how confusing certain parts are written (mainly when Harry goes from inside his head to Voldemorts and back etc)
I think book 7 proved beyond a doubt how much better it is to have your story fully fleshed out, with all the major plot points written in stone before publishing the first book in a series.
I have one large complaint with the book:
Why kill the Owl? I realise it was done so Harry would not have the responsibility of looking after her on his trip, but it would have been just as easy for Harry to release her, or send her to the Weasley's or something.
Otherwise it was more or less what I was expecting, Rowling has never written action sequences or duels very well at all, and she kept that tradition going in this book. What it does allow is the imagination to fill in the extremely large blanks.
If given a decent effects supervisor for the final film (which none of the first 5 films have had) this could be one of the prettier and most beautiful looking films in recent memory.

Interesting...
What's this scene like? What happens in it?
I'd really like to know because I've been writing a novel of my own on and off for the past 7 years or so, and I've got a nice little mental battle that I'm quite proud of at the end.
I've never read a Harry Potter book, nor do I want to, but I've seen the movies and there are a few aspects of my own book that have shown up in this series, and I'm scared to death that it will look like I ripped it off. I had my ideas a decade ago, and I know mine are way better, but damn...

Agreed. I actually thought of TF: TM when I read that Lupin and Tonks died(which SUCKED because I was really pulling for them to live; Lupin was my favorite character); I was reminded of how(iirc, I haven't watched the movie in a LOOONG time) Windcharger and Wheeljack were just dead, without any real explanation. Towards the end the deaths really did have a TFTM, "Kill them all for the heck of it" feel.
I would have LOVED to have seen a Full Moon bout between Lupin and Greyback(I was hoping that if he had to die, that's how he would go out).
I enjoyed it, but I wish she had been a bit more conservative with her killing off of characters.

Greyback was for the most part, cowardly, and not near wicked as he was made to be. Just a petty thief so to speak. I did not like how he was written, at all.
SPOILERS (just in case!)
I did like the that so many people were wrong about Ron, Hermione, and Harry. And technically, Harry does die.
I was confused by parts of it. The Dumbledore exposition to Harry was pretty out there for me. I've read it twice, and it still does not sensibly explain things to me.
I like Mrs. Weasley, "Nobody shoots at my daughter BITCH!"
There were a lot of nice fantasy story-telling moments.
I know someone mentioned that they liked the growth of Snape throughout, and I did too (obviously she had recognized it too, and showed it through the middle name of Harry's second born). His devotion to Harry's mom, not Dumbledore was great to find out. The fact the Dumbledore was more or less, quite a fallible character was nice to find out too. His brother was quite a surprise.
But I did like how Neville grew as well. He grew and changed quite a bit as well, and I really liked that she allowed him to be such an overall heroic character. Hermione was awesome and steadfast to Harry also.
Overall I was satisfied with it.
Still wondering? Who's the Hogwart's Headmaster now? What are all of our beloved characters doing as jobs?
Some other thoughts that I just can't think of now.
