I don't get the hatred for newer continuities
Okay yes, I'm aware I'm probably opening the floodgates of rage and trolling but w/e. I'm just going to say it; I really don't get the hatred.
I know it's probably a vocal minority and yes, I understand the importance of childhood nostalgia. I mean, I probably find Beast Wars way too good than what it probably is when put to the standards of modern Transformers series but still. I...I don't get it. I don't get the cries of whiny 40 years old who constantly rage that everything new is utter sh** without any redeeming quality and that everything that isn't the G1 cartoon is an abomination that should be tossed into Unicron's gullet.
I just don't get it. Childhood nostalgia is one thing but utter blind hatred and denial is utterly ridiculous. There's a difference between 'I don't like it and it's my opinion' and 'YOU'RE WRONG! IT'S POOP! IT'S DOO DOO AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD FOR LIKING IT! IT'S NOT THE *REAL* TRANSFORMERS!'. Please, people, enlightment; am I missing something? Like I said, I understand the value of nostalgia and I am aware not everything in the franchise has been a masterpiece but not this blind insanity that an '80 children cartoon was the high point of a franchise (and thus that anything after is forever automatically bad) that continued relatively strong 30 years after said cartoon.

I think at least part of it is that the accompanying media is generally considered to be uniformly terrible. This isn't limited to the live-action movies; the Armada/Energon TV series were fairly heavily panned as well, even while some of the toys were pretty cool.
A second part is that the movies represent, to a degree, what Transformers as a pop-culture phenomenon can be when it's given a nine-figure budget to play with. Theoretically, that much money should be able to result in the absolute best of what Transformers as a franchise has to offer. Instead, it's been put towards making some quite frankly rather awful movies. There's a sense of disappointment in the fandom about that, a kind of nostalgia for what could have been.
Still, it's not all doom and gloom. The Prime/BH continuity isn't doing too badly, and Generations is being largely well-received. Not to mention the video games are doing fairly well, and the comics are considered good quality. And in time, the movies will run out of steam and stop being made, or at least stop being written by whoever's doing them now.

I dont get it either, do I agree with dicisions made in Movieverse, Prime etc, no but I wouldnt go as far as to sy I "hate" the newer stuff. For me its a double edged sword, what ever you may think of the films or the newer TV series they have raised the profile of the franchise conciderably and in doing so have made Hasd/Tak a hell of a lot of money, which in turn has enabled them to pump money into thing like CHUG and Masterpiece lines, so yeah the films my suck a little but when you have figures like MP Soundwave and Generations Springer as a result then I feel its a small price to pay.

It's just opinions at the end of the day, well opinions that are sometimes treated like fact. I mean thanks to countless re-runs I fell in love with Energon
So others may hate new things? So what. Transformers is a massive fandom, people will like and hate different things about the franchise but we all love the premise: giant shape-changing-physics-defying sentitent robots from Cybertron who wage war on each other.
and we'll always have that in common.

A letdown to me is combining the WFC and Prime continuities. There could have been so much potential for the WFC universe, dont get me wrong, there still is potential, but Prime kinda dictated where the WFC storyline would go.

Because people have a rosy view of the old series which focuses on all the good points while omitting the many flaws. Simple.

Season 1 of the G1 cartoon is the definitive Transformers. The G1 toys may not have been the best, but the Classics and MP line which is based on G1 makes up for that. I tried to watch some of the newer shows since so much of it is ripped off from G1, but most of the stuff is unwatchable. Bayformers and Prime are just "off" and the IDW comics are bizarre. The newer KOntinuities come and go, but G1 will always be revisited. Will fans come back to Beast Wars, Energon or even Bayformers the way they come back to G1? Nope. Hasbro should just put all it's energy into remaking G1 and stop wasting people's time!

My personal favorites are G1 and the Movieverse. That being said,I have a lot of love for Beast Wars,Prime and Cybertron.
I'm not sure why people get in such a rage over different continuities. If nothing else, the Transformer multiverses allow people with different tastes to enjoy the product.

You ask for enlightenment, and that's a good thing. That is, if you're actually willing to listen. For every troll there is on one side, there is another on the other side. Just look at this thread so far. Opinions are given, then immediately trashed by the other side as if nothing we written at all.
I could give points as to why the Bay movies are bad, but unless you are willing to be open-minded (you know, that same open-mindedness that people say G1'ers should have for the newer stuff? Yeah, same thing.), then it all usually goes down the same toilet. I really like open debate about these topics, by they are so easy to derail that it's usually pointless to even bring up.
So, I'll just say it like this: the Bay movies could have been great. But they were far, far from it in almost every respect.

The sad fact is the new stuff can't compare with a hastily made, 30 year old cartoon. There is better acting on the G1 cartoons than 100 million plus productions like Bayformers!JetOptimus23 wrote:1984forever wrote:Season 1 of the G1 cartoon is the definitive Transformers. Not all KOntinuities are bad, WFC/FOC/RoftDS are awesome. KOntinuities that are unwatchable, unreadable and embarrassing deserve the fandom's hatred.

Yeah but Rise of the Dark Spark is half bayformers, so wouldn't that mean it's half "unwatchable"? Plus it's kind of unfair to G1 to compare it to Bay's movies, which have budgets within the billions and thousands upon thousands of people working on them to a 1980s cartoon with a low budget and a focus on selling toys instead of storytelling and characterization...though the series actually does some of that better than Bay's films so...

Yes, Rise of the Dark spark is half trash. Judging by the leader boards, much more people play the Cybertron portions. This proves that the more something is like G1, the more people enjoy it.

Well I grew up with a few G1 video tapes and loved them, but the continuity that was "on" as I was growing up was the Unicron Trilogy. I watched Armada and loved it, and I have a lot of affection for those characters (Armada Megatron is still my favourite Megatron design). Energon was blatantly terrible, but the toys were awesome. The Cybertron cartoon is actually one of my favourite TF cartoons next to Beast Wars. WFC is how G1 should have been done. And the movies were just awesome.
So yeah. As far as I'm concerned, the new continuities are a welcome addition to the Transformers multiverse.

Firstly, all I hate is Kiss Players. That's all I hate continuity-wise. Now then. Let's get down to business. I like the original cartoon, but it is flawed out the exhaust transistors. I think the Unicron Trilogy, Prime and Animated are the best shows followed in a close second by BW. I think RID while having an amazing story, had a nice throwback to G1's campiness. I also think that the live action movies are badass, even if parts like Jazz Starscream and Ironhide's deaths or how NEST mistreated Prime when they air dropped him at the base pissed me off. It's better than G1 Wheelie's voice. If I speak heresy then I might as well add that while I learned everything basic from the 86 movie back in 02, I think my favorite generation is Cybertron. Refer to my signature.

If enjoying when toys were fun is a sin consider me the biggest sinner of all time

anyways... i find more often is the opposite: people tossing aside G1 in favor of the new stuff. ill watch anything and everything at least once. what ive found to be my favorites are:
-G1 season 1. grew up with it and will always love it, campy 80's commercial nonsense and all.
-BW and BM. probably because its directly tied to G1, but also so skillfuly done.
everything else, i have likes and dislikes, but try to keep an open mind and include everything.
