It does look cool, and I own the Universe repaint into this character but I just have a hard time liking a transformer that doesnt turn into a robot.

Although, that micromaster Hot Rod is a big seller for that Star Convoy set. I have always been a sucker for big chunky robots and Hot Rods, so its a win-win situation
Yeah, micromaster combiners (Sixtrain!), Skygarry, small bases, Countdown (inexpensive and AWESOME)... Al those bases combine through their ramps. Building micromastercity is nerdy-cool and having Convoy at the centre is just... The way it's supposed to be in this world.

I definitely am trying to beef up my G1's but since I was one of those "watch from the first TV episode kids" my heart is with the 84-86 releases, with a couple 87's. Honestly, I'd probably collect more of the later G1 stuff but it is incredibly expensive to find much of it mint and complete. One exception is the Micromasters you mentioned and they are actually a lot of fun. I don't have a lot of them in my personal collection, but my wife has some in hers (along with a lot of other easy to transform TF's and fembots.) A great place to find Micromasters is Crave.com, even some of the MOSC sets are fairly reasonable.
As far as Star Convoy goes, I haven't priced him recently, but I don't think he's an incredibly hard piece because he was reissued twice. From what I hear the Hot Rodimus micromaster is actually nicer on the reissue than the original. Can anyone else vouch for this?

Actually, for further reference you should probably check out Ryan's awesome gallery of the reissue version if you haven't already.

yea I drooled over that gallery a couple times. I actually just ordered a G1 Metroplex

Im wierd like that, I do have every intention of making this set mine VERY soon but somehow Metroplex got my attention and I changed my mind at the last minute. It was all those Reprolabels upgrades for him that did it, I love adding decals
