Movie Leader Megatron problems, questions + solutions - plz post here!
The more I browse the Leader Megs gallery on this site, the more I think that I am judging it unfairly to an extent - even with all the bad reviews it got.
I have the feeling that it got a lot of bad reviews not because it is the worst toy ever - but because it is easily one of the most disappointing toys ever. Insofar that the gimmicks, if executed properly, would have been great, but they weren't. Colour scheme is awkward, strange jet mode, and you know the rest. I figure that if I don't see for myself, I am just taking everyone's word for it, and as wise as that might be, I'll never know if I don't go.
Furthermore, I have to say that his chain whip does indeed look cool. I care little for the fusion cannon, but everyone seems to have done heaps of cool tricks with it that weren't listed in Hasbro's terrible instructions. Cybertron Galvatron in robot mode also seemed to have 2 weapon modes - did anyone feel a bit lacking with that? Just asking. And he does have bulk, size, and intimidation going for him. I am also starting to think he is a nice change from the constantly anthropomorphized Megatrons/Galvatrons we have seen since G1.
Of course, many will vehemently disagree with me (too monstrous, too ugly, and all that). But I am just weighing up the pros and cons of buying him. So is he disliked because he is disappointing, or is he hated full stop?

He looks like ass. Thats the main problem.
Also after buying Cyb Metroplex for leader price (in this country £40) and getting my bigest bout of buyers remorse ever (I REALLY didnt like cyb Metroplex) I am very wary of making the same mistake again with movie Megs.
For £40 I expect a toy that looks and is better than he is. I'll probably get him if I see him on discount (which is unlikly cuase the last Cyb Megs I saw was STILL full price and the UK TrUs are still selling Cyb Prime full price).

Leader Megatron sucks, plain and simple. My bro has the Leader version, I have the Voyager and the FAB versions. And those 2 hands down are much better than the Leader. For me it's:
paint scheme is hideous
gimmicks are lame(the "mace" doesn't launch from his wrist, it kinda just sloshes forward a bit)
The automorph sucks, little bits of his legs shift around to fold under the wings and some pink plastic pieces pop up in bot mode, nothing useful.
The head is only covered by a plastic piece in jet mode, otherwise it's totally visible. The Voyagers head is visible as well, but it slides behind the ice piece in jet mode so it's not so bad.
Both modes look like the was no thought put into them. It's basically his jet mode slapped on top of his bot mode.
The hands look terrible.
That's just my opinion. But then again I don't like any of the movie leaders at all.

I would say he doesn't look like a complete ass, because I'm a sucker for ornate armour and all that. But yeah, his paint job, especially on his face, stuffs up a lot.
I understand your grief with Metroplex. I am definietly not making that mistake - he's on discount over here and I'm not even sure if I want him.
See, I got Leader Prime at full price, and I don't regret it at all - I love him and is my favourite figure. I also have a feeling that Galaxy Convoy and Cybertron Galvatron, although they are expensive Leader Classes, would have been worth full price.

I absolutely, positively think that MLM is the WORST transformers figure of all time. I can't stand him at all. Mine won't stay together in alt mode, (his arms won't stay snapped in underneath) The paint is lousy, his bulkyness makes him look nothing like Megs from the movie. He's boring to transform. And I totally agree it looks like they slapped an alt mode on him after they already had robot mode designed. I never play with him. I play around with all my TF's about once or twice a week on average. I think I've messed with Megs maybe twice in the past 2 months.

Surely he can't be as bad as some of the toys I have seen. It's like you saying you would rather get a Legend for free than the Leader Megatron!Autobot Vanquish wrote:I absolutely, positively think that MLM is the WORST transformers figure of all time.

Fair enough. I personally like bulkiness. But that's just me. I don't want to start an argument with anyone - I'm just starting to think that calling Leader Megs the WORST, SHITTIEST figure ever just might be being a liiiiiiitle bit unfair.
Mind you I agree with most of the complaints against him. But I mean, if you hate his design in this movie universe of coure you'll hate his toy.

Well yeah, I may be overboard on calling him the worst EVER, but out of my collection and all my friends collections, he's the worst I've seen and owned. As for his bulkiness, it's cool if you enjoy it. I just have a thing for movie accuracy. I like when action figures are made like the movie. Batman figures for example. Growing up, I never owned more than maybe 2 because I couldn't stand all the colorful non-linear junk they gave all the figures. I just bought the basic black batman, and I was happy. I guess I'm just a perfectionist.

I don't really mind movie Meg. I admit he had to grow on me initially. He's really sleek and different, and I enjoyed seeing him, but the toy man, c'mon, the toy? LOL!

He looks bad ass. They just effed up on the paint soooo bad. And this is true, because look at all the customs on the forums and see what a diffeence it makes! As for his gimmicks, they somewhat suck, the fusion cannon is hard and wont stay in position, the chain is pretty lack luster. There really isnt much bad with his transformations though.Raymond101 wrote:The more I browse the Leader Megs gallery on this site, the more I think that I am judging it unfairly to an extent - even with all the bad reviews it got.

I really think it is just the paint apps.

Ha ha! Me too! I always looked for the movie acurate batman from each movie. I stayed away from most of the colorful ones, but I got a few because they came with movie accurate weapons and such.Autobot Vanquish wrote:Well yeah, I may be overboard on calling him the worst EVER, but out of my collection and all my friends collections, he's the worst I've seen and owned. Dude, I'm happy to hear your opinion of the toy. I know what I'm up against and I'll probably need to apply some of my own paint to work... I just hope they're not releasing another Megatron toy somewhere down the line if I get this current one...

Raymond101 he isn't really that bad. Honestly I think it's just the paint that ignores people. Like wise the Unleashed that doesn't transform. But who cares? It's what you think not them...

There's lots of things to complain about Movie Megatron. I'll just list mine.
1. The design, both on screen and the toy is absolutely horrific. If not the purpose of giving Leader Prime an equivalent opponent, i would not have bought it.
2. The beauty of Transformers is to see how a bot transforms and fits into its particular vehicle body. It fires up your imagination and excitement. With the Cybertronian Jet mode, this most beautiful experience is thrown right out the window. It's not even shaped like any vehicle form or any object remotely recognizable. It's just like we, the TF fans, were treated as extremely low IQ quacks, that we would swallow any pile of crap Megatron transform into.
3. For such a big toy, the articulation is very limited. This is a very big disappointment. The elbow won't bend 90 degrees. The legs has such big feet, but can't move much. Due to the automorph for the feet, which i think is quite useless on this part, you can't position the feet the way you want it to. The head is a big joke, totally no articulation. The cannon can't pose deployed; you have to keep it pressed with your finger to see it.
4. He's got such a big heavy ass-flap. (With batteries inside) It's not easy to get him to stand up straight without falling on his back moments later.
5. The build quality of the Leader Megtron is not good. The extra thing on each arm keeps falling down. The chain weapon is clumsy to pull out and put back in. From the looks of it, i think the rope can be broken easily. Have to be very careful with this.
6. I observe some design flaws in the toy.
A. The vehicles forward section, i don't even know what to call it. Fuselage? Forward landing protrusion? Anyway, it's the arms part of the bot, when in vehicle mode, don't line up straight. One is pointed inward, the other straight. It has this clicking stop points. So if you try to pull them a bit outward, one is always farther than the other.
B. Another similar problem is the wings. Due to automorph, it has its own pre-destined position. But one wing folds flat, while the other is always ajar. Impossible to get them to align symmetrically.
C. The crotch area has design flaws. When transforming the thighs into vehicle mode, it chips off the edge of the "pants". It's very difficult to transform this part. It took be 3 hours to try to be very careful to avoid this, but it still hit the "pants" and tiny plastics are chipped off.
D. Finally, the legs/feet assembly scrapes the wings everytime you tranform him. No problem for now, as the plastic is still smooth. No falling debris. But how long can this last?

I just think they're way too inacurate. Dlx. Brawl's appearance seems to be more true to the movie design than the Leader, imho. And the clear plastic bits for the electronic gimmicks kill it for me. And look at Voyager Prime and compare him to the movie model and then do the same with the Leader. While the Leaders alt. mode is closer to the movies truck model, the paint scheme is off, and the robot mode is almost to bulky. Leader Prime isn't a bad toy, though, but not as good as the Voyager, imo.
But then again, since the Classic line, I've been kinda turned off from the Leader class in general.

Is there a leader class in Classics line?
For the leader class Movie toys, Megatron is a total disappointment, in whatever mode you can get him into. Even in Gerwalk mode!(kidding) Prime looks good, especially in vehicle mode. The bot mode is not bad, although largely inaccurate compared to the movie design. But not too bad. I can live with that. Brawl, which i haven't seen the real toy yet, looks very promising. From Ryan's picture gallery, i can see a lot of major improvements from its Deluxe toy. This could be the best Leader toy. If only i can buy him soon.

You may not have a choice at all. If you bought Leader Prime, it's only logical to have Leader Megatron to go with him.

Ah, I see. Classics didn't have any toys larger than Voyager did it? And they were recognizable vehicles, unlike Megatron's cybertronian jet or Brawl's modified Abrams.
I can see why Classics was awesome.
But I still think the movie Leaders have something to offer.

I think he meant that Classics was a great line that had no neccessity for expensive Leaders or Supremes.
I personally have no problem with Leader Prime's robot mode because I like bulkiness.
Yeah, and on me HAVING to get Megs, yeah, Leader Prime and my Autobot team are looking very lonely without Megatron to fight. I think I'll be compelled to buy him sooner or later.

You know, there is a plus side to megs. Yeah he is bulky, but he is sturdy as all hell. Everything on him is thick and well assembled. He isnt delicate. And yeah he is huge. So big that he is a good opponent for all the autobots, especially leader prime. How could you pass that up? And then, well, if you can find him, then you have an oportunity that many many people dont, because I havent seen him on shelves in months now, since before the movie came out.Raymond101 wrote:Auto Bot wrote:
