Perfect Effect Leonidas (Lio Convoy)

Aye. I haven't seen the series he's from but IIRC his toy was pretty damn big, and I think he was equally large in the anime. Which would make sense, as super robot anime "Big Good Leader Guys" tend to be hueg liek xbawks (see GaoGaiGar, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, etc...) so he'd fit in well with classics guys I think.

I bet he'll look nice next to Hexatron in a dual-wielding sword battle! The extra details (and weapons) helps alot in bulking his overall look.

Re: Perfect Effect Leonidas (Lio Convoy)
This thing looks remarkable to me. I'll buy it in a hot second as soon as i see the final paint scheme. PE hit it out of the park with Warden so i'm willing to take the gamble on this fig.
Bot mode is near perfect and they pulled off the lion mode just as well.
I was really wanting to get the original figure for a while but it had issues with tolerances in bot mode that made me hold off on pulling the trigger on buying one.
I'm glad i waited for something like this to come along.
That lion head sculpt.....

Re: Perfect Effect Leonidas (Lio Convoy)
If anyone is wondering how tall Leonidas will be. Just did some measurements.
Measured the top part of MP-10's robot torso where Leonidas robot head comes up to in the recent comparison pic. It measures 8 & 1/2 inches tall from head to feet.
When measuring I took into account that Leonidas robot legs were spread really far apart compared to MP-10's Legs that were not spread at all on the pose pic. I added a 1/4 inch more for Leonidas. Since Really far leg spreads reduce the robot height by more than 1/4 of a inch.
For those wondering the height different between HasTak Lio Convoy and Leonidas. HasTak Lio Convoy Measures 7 & 3/4 inches tall from head to toe with his robot legs spread a bit. If you don't spread the Robot legs, Then Lio Convoy measures 8 Inches tall from head to toe.
In conclusion, Leonidas can be considered a short Leader scale toy, As it has the height and bulk that makes it qualify for the Leader scale. Since 2009 Animated Leader Scale Megatron is a 8 & 1/4 inch tall toy. while Energon Galvatron's robot mode was 9 inches tall. 30th Leader scale Jetfire is a 8 & 3/4 inch tall robot mode.
Don't think their are any CHUG or AEC $27 USA Ultra scale toys that meausure above 7 & 3/4 inches tall in robot mode. Most are not that bulky.

Think, Unexpectedpanda, colored both Leonidas toys terrible. Just don't like his work as I think he colors every toy terrible. Think most of the time the Finished toy colors look mountains better than how this guy colors them.
Don't like, Unexpectedpanda's work, because he adds no shine, the colors applied are always dull-matte. Speculating he likes to color everything in the cartoon colors.

Because the point of digibashing is to get an early representation of the product in color, and is usually a quick job. You want a better, shinier work? Well, you'll just have to go make your own

Re: Perfect Effect Leonidas (Lio Convoy)
Noticed that Leonida's robot head is undersized for the big tall bulky body that it's placed on. Think had Leonidas robot head been regular sized, The toy would be taller.
Takara BWII Lioconvoy's 1998 toy has a huge oversized robot head on it. Had Leonidas had a Oversized head also, this would have increased the robot height almost a 1/4 of a inch.
Hoping a 3rd party like SXS or Dr Wu, creates a regular or oversized robot head for Leonida's. As the original head is undersized. I dislike pin heads on big tall bulky bodies.

Ya know, if you critically stare at something long enough you're likely to convince yourself there's something about a figure you dislike or fool yourself into thinking something doesn't look right.
Looking at the head, I really don't see it not being big enough for the rest of the body. Might be the giant lion head on the shoulder that's throwing it off for ya, Tsutsukakushi.

That "Nemesis Prime" colour scheme looks good. The electric blue really does the trick. Hope they actually do that colour scheme.

As said before, Lio Convoy is a big guy, in both the anime and his original toy. So technically this is CHUG scale.

Well the original toy was about Leader class IIRC, and the anime used the toy scales for the most part (I think, I haven't seen Beast Wars II) so he's about the right size.

Okay, this? It looks nice. Is there a place for it in my collection? Hmm, maybe.
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

The original 1998 Takara BWII Lio Convoy toy was Eight inch Ultra TF toy scale, not Leader TF toy scale.

New Beast Wars guys mess up scale anyway. Look at the new Tankor. Even Ratrap can intimidate the poor guy.
This guy isn't on my radar, but he looks fantastic. I think it may go well with the old Beast Wars Botcon set.

Honestly though, does anyone really care that much about tbe scale? I mean, to the best of my knowledge Lio Convoy/Leo Prime never appear alongside the G1 cast anyway, and in Beast Wars the Maximals and Predacons are shown to be much smaller than their ancestors (case in point, BW Megatron is barely the size of Optimus Prime's head) so it's not even like there is an "official" scale to go off beyond what looks good. Personally I like Beastformers to be bigger than other 'bots- it just fits, somehow.

In agreeance.
All I care about is buying a 8.5 inch Lion-bot that's fully articulated in both modes. As one this size rarely gets made.
Was interested in buying TFC Razorclaw because of it's big size. but never liked that weird sculpt in either mode.

The fact that the characters from both continuities have never appeared side by side makes me want to have them scale with CHUG figures even more. I don't want to sugarcoat things by going off of the vintage toy scale for accuracy. Hasbro/Takara made a lot of figures bigger for the sake of child playability. Small hands can easily transform a bigger toy with less little parts. I don't care about child playability so vintage toy scale and bigger figures are quite annoying to me personally. The concept just doesn't mesh well with the cartoon accuracy. The only character in the American G1 cartoons that actually should be leader scale is Skyfire. Why some people want Prime and Megatron to be the same height as Skyfire boggles my mind.

Er, what? You're contradicting yourself. You can't say whether something's scale is "accurate" or not if there's no actual way of determining what the "correct" scale is. Lio Convoy was never meant to be put alongside the G1 cast, and as far as I know has never made any fictional appearances with them. Unless there's official measurements for how big Lio Convoy is in the cartoon which can be compared to, say, Prime's "official" height (whatever that is) it is IMPOSSIBLE to know whether he's "to scale" with a CHUG G1 collection. The only real factor we have to go off as to whether Leonidas is to CHUG scale (which is already absurdly loose as a scale) is personal preference- I and many others consider this to be around the right scale, but you evidently don't, which is fine. However, your opinion on whether the scale is "right" is still nothing more than an opinion, and . Also, I find it funny that you're bashing the toy scale when that's the only measurement they can actually reliably use. Technically I suppose you could compare the size of this to the size of the BWII toys abnd compare that to the BWII anime scale, but bringing up "American G1 cartoon scale" on a toy based on a character who has never even appeared in the American G1 cartoon, or even alongside characters from that cartoon, is absolutely laughable. It's like comparing apples to oranges, or Evangelion Unit 01 to Mazinger Z (both of which are mecha with a habit of fluctuating in size, in the case of Mazinger Z because it was the 70s and in the case of Unit 01 because the guys at Gainax were more concerned making them look cool than making them scale consistently, and have made some effort to fix that in the remake series).
