Question about G1 season 2
I have a question about the second season of the original Transformers. Is there a episode in which Thrust, Ramjet and Dirge is formally introduced or do they just mysteriously show up like most Autobots in season 2?

No, they just appeared like most of the autobots did. Dirge appeared in Dinobot Island part 2. Thrust and Ramjet appeared in Dinobot Island part 1. The two parter also introduced Blitzwing, Red Alert, Perceptor, Seaspray, Blaster, Grapple, Tracks, Hoist and Smokescreen. That is alot of new characters.
Watch the first of my youtube series, Friends Transform.

Most interesting. No explanation for their origins.

Re: Question about G1 season 2
There may have been a reference to some Autobots being in side rooms of the Ark and taking longer to repair. Decepticons could have been sent from Cybertron after the Space Bridge was built. Overall, they don't do a job of introducing characters in Season 2. At least season 3 brought in some characters with explanations (like Wheelie in the Movie and Sandstorm from the other planet that was blown up). Beast Wars did a much better job of character origins.

Then again in season two, both sides introduce characters that can travel into space, Astrotrain and Omega Supreme. So even if the new tf's who showed up in season two didn't use the space bridge they could of at least come to Earth by way of these two. That couldve been their excuse for the new characters.

The Marvel comic gives introductions for everybody, so it helps to keep them in continuity with each other with the cartoon NOT doing many introductions.

No there was no such comment.
They just implied that the season 2 bots were there all along.

Re: Question about G1 season 2
You have to remember the cartoon was done specifically to sell the toys...Continuity wasn't a chief concern...As more toys came out, more bots appeared in the show...
Season 3 had a much stronger ongoing story (even though several parts of it were pretty rediculous)...

Actully Wheelie didnt have much of an origin at all.
They just showed him on Quitessa with out saying how or why he got there.

They never secificly stated that the Quits created either team.
At one point it was said that the Quits programed a timer into Aboinus so that he would disengage into his components but thats not the same thing as saying they created them.
And they never said anything about creating the Pedicons.
The Quints introduced the Preds but thats it.

Yeah, and the order in which the episodes of season are supposed to go is a little rocky. If one watches them in the oreder they were pt in on the Rhino DVD sets, the Terrorcons would first appear in "Call of the Primitives" instead of "Money is Everything" or "Grimlock's New Brain" as other places say. Even still, they show up without explanation in all three of these episodes.

Exactly.
The Terrorcons are like the Protectibot and the Predicons.
They never showed them being created.

The Protectobots' origin was explained in Grimlock's New Brain after getting super-intelligence Grimlock builds them inside Unicron's head to battle the Decepticons because the Autobots were inflicted with a glitch virus (or something like that). Grimlock gives Computron his super-smarts so that he could beat Abominus.

The Technobots were created by Grimlock when he was given super intelligence not the Protectobots.

Re: Question about G1 season 2
The Proctectobots' origin was explained in the episode with the Insecticons and all kinds of other newer characters. The Protectobots spontaneously generated inside of a nondescript building with a false front side that was really a garage door. Prime intuitively detected their presence and called on them when he neede some reinforcements. Duh

Re: Question about G1 season 2
They just appeared.SentinelA wrote:I have a question about the second season of the original Transformers. Is there a episode in which Thrust, Ramjet and Dirge is formally introduced or do they just mysteriously show up like most Autobots in season 2?
However,... There is a, to date still unconfirmed, rumor that there was a outline submitted for season two that not only explained the conehead seekers, but the season 2 autobots as well. Over 100 stories were submitted of which only a certain ammount got actually picked up to be turned into scripts and be produced into episodes. This proposal is said to have been one of the stories that got axed.
According to the rumor as I understood it, the story starts 4 million years ago. A distress signal from Teletraan One reaches the Autobots on Cybertron. They send out a rescue party to include Perceptor, Blaster, Beachcomber, Inferno, Red Alert and all the others and go out to find Optimus Prime and the others.
Shockwave still in control of Cybertron intercepts the transmission and sends out the Coneheads and the TripleChangers to go after them. They attack and board the Autobot ship it crashlands on Earth and they are discovered in "present day" Earth, and join the ranks of their team mates.
If this rumor is true, you can kind of guess why they nixed the idea, to turn this story into an actual episode. It's too much like the pilot episodes of the first season. And it wouldn't really make sense to go through all of the same motions again.
So far I have not heard anyone official mention this supposed proposal. But I have not heard anything suggesting that it couldn't be true either. Remember, Sunbow was on a tight time table in those day, while next to Transformers and GI Joe the got to do more an more shows, on the same resources. Supposedly, there were some 100 to 150 proposals of which only 52 (or actually first 12 and then 40 to make up season 2) were picked to get greenlit for production. If a proposal was bad, they would skip it and go for the next one that was ready to be used, instead of wasting time and money on re-writing one. So the rumor is plausible in that regard. But true or false, it was never used in production and so it really doesn't matter one way or another.
