ROTF treatment towards Decepticon cause less car company willing make theirs a Decepticon
Last post about the rumored Decepticon Ferrari, confirmed it is an Autobot.
Micheal Bay states that Ferrari wouldn't want their car to become a Decepticon. Well after what happened to Sideways in ROTF can you blame them? I'm sure Audi wasn't too happy having their car chopped to half like it's some cheap metal.
Car companies always prefer having movies that show the superiority of their product. I remember watching a series of short movie during my college. My lecturer asked me, who was the main actor of the short movie. It was the Mercedes car.
The short movie didn't have a Mercedes logo at the beginning. It was no adverstisment. They didn't spent time focusing the car logo or anything. It was a movie. But it focuses on the superiority of the Mercedes. How it has the horsepower to push a car in front of it. How it could get the hero in time to his destination despite his low fuel(to prove the car is economical). Car companies prefer these publicity.
I notice Decepticons in DOTM only have Cybertronian modes, Military vehicle modes, and a Chevrolet SUV(clearly because Chevrolet's ties with Micheal Bay). Even the speculation of the Mercedes being Soundwave was dropped. Guess Decepticon's poor display in ROTF gave them a bad name.
You gotta admit, what car company would want their car being a Deceptiocn that gets killed with the only screentime it has was being their car.

On the other hand, I now think F-22's are totally badass.

Military vehicles are awesome, just wish we got some road speedsters on the Decepticon side.

Audi never gave there permission to use their vehicle. Thats why it had such a small role in the ROTF. Also if you notive the toy for Sideways, it resembles an Audi R8, but no where are there any Audi symbols on it, and on the back packaging it simplly says "Sports car mode" Not "Audi R8 mode" for its vehicle description.

A car being protryed as a bad robot in a movie wouldn't perswade my decision on buying it. BUt thats me.

Yeah, i've noticed that on Sideways packaging. Always wondered about that.
It can't just be about the car being the bad guy. Many bad guys is movies has cool rides.

Re: ROTF treatment towards Decepticon cause less car company willing make theirs a Decepticon
This, friends, is why we only see (mainly) military vehicles as Decepticons. The stipulation by the military when Bay asked for their vehicles was to "make them look badass" (no, seriously), and since GM was against their cars looking "evil" he chose the military vehicles to play the 'cons.
And on the note of F-22s, they're cool and all but I'm more of a Apache gunship guy myself (blame marathon sessions of Battlefield: Bad Company 2). Too bad we don't have any 'cons playing one.

I'd buy a car if it was portreyed as a decepticon.I never ever heard of the Audi R8 until ROTF,the F-22 is now my favorite military jet,and the chevys(dreads) in DOTM,Ive always liked them.

I would totally buy a Barricade-styled Saleen/Mustang.

Interesting. I'd be pretty pissed if i were Audi concidering how little screen time their product recieved, and practicly no logo palacment either. Also why did they get the shaft with the Toy? Seems GM, Boing, Skorski, Peterbuilt, Mack and every other car/truck/aircraft manufactuer was given licencing credit except for Audi. Thats not something that is simpley just forgoten.

They had their logo placed on the car, there was also media coverage about the car being used before the movie came out. The reason why the toy is not licensed and therefore not accurate to the actual car is due to the fact that Audi is owned by VW, who do not want their cars to be associated with war toys.

I stand corrected. Thanks for the info.

But back to the oringal discussion, i never understood why automakers don't want their cars to be "bad guys". Exposure is exposer. If i were in the market for say... a Saleen mustang, my decision wouldn't be swayed if it were portrayed as a vilian in a movie. Especialy a vilian that turns into a bad robot. Cars like these aren't bought by average buyers. The people that purchase them know what they want. And i doubt them wearing a D-con emblem is going to swade their minds over to the competion.
