RR Frenzy: A review.

Postby Virsago » Wed Sep 26, 2007 4:32 pm

So I told myself I wasn't gonna buy any of the Robot Replicas. Went to the Wal-Mart in the Buena Park Mall in Southern CA today and discovered to see the once empty shelves now stocked with Deluxes (unfortunately or fortunately depending on who you are, the shelves were stocked with Swindle, Wreckage, Scorponok, Brawl, Dreadwing, and 1 Bonecrusher. Pretty much all the old ones.), the Voyager repaints and Voyager Megs, a buttload of FAB's, a lot of Cyber Slammers and a lot of Robot Replicas. I spotted Frenzy among the RR's and thought, "Ah what the hell. I'll get him. It's the only RR I really showed interest in." So was he worth it? Read on.

Accessories:
Frenzy comes with 1 machine gun arm that can only be switched with his left arm and 1 small hard plastic CD shuriken. The Shuriken can be placed his chest, allowing a button on his back to pop out. *gasp* Frenzy's the only RR that has an actual action feature! Push the button on his back and the shuriken "fires." You'll have to press hard if you want it to fly far though I advise against it unless you know where you're aiming. The shuriken's small size makes it easy to lose. So yeah, lame feature but at least it adds a little something. The machine gun arm is pretty nicely detailed. An ammo chain is molded into it and the barrel itself is painted gold.

The Figure:
Frenzy comes molded in mostly gray plastic with gold paint apps on his limbs. body, head, feet, and blue paint apps on the eyes. The claws, arms, head, and feet have some dark silver paint on the as well. I think it would have been better to have Frenzy molded in silver instead of gray, giving him a more chrome look like in the movie but oh well. Appearance wise Frenzy is accurate to his CGI model, and the most accurate out of all the Frenzy figures. Though that really isn't saying much considering the only other 2 Frenzy figures so far is the one included with Barricade and the FAB one, haha. Frenzy is also very light due to his skinny frame. He is generally as tall as most of the deluxe figs.

Poseability:
Now for the supposed selling point of the RR figs. He doesn't have the fake revoltech joints as seen on on the other figs. Frenzy's poseability is as follows: head, arms, upper legs, knees, feet, elbows, upper arms, and the left arm has a little more movement than the right due to the fact that you can switch the arm for the gun arm. His head is on a ball joint, so posing range for that is good. You can have him do his spastic head twists just like the movie. His upper leg are on ball joints as well. Everything else is on swivel joints. His elbows swivel from left to right and everything else swivels up and down. His left arm can rotate in addition to being able to swivel at the elbows. His upper arms can rotate 360 degrees. You can probably get him into some decent poses. I'm still experimenting with some. He could probably stand in more poses if his feet were on ball joints.

The Verdict:
So is Frenzy worth his 10 buck pricetag? No. He was made with less plastic than the other RR's so I would expect him to be cheaper. I'd say only get him if you want an accurate Frenzy. But don't expect to get an accurate Frenzy that can transform; there's going to be too much kibble. Generally in the end, RR Frenzy is just a nice display piece. Think of him as a poseable, much smaller, less detailed Unleashed figure. I can't compare him to the other RR's since I have no interest in them.

7/10. Nice attempt Hasbro but he just ain't worth his pricetag. Maybe you should focus on Transformers that actually transform.

A pic will be posted later but my phone's being retarded.

I think of robot replicas as the Action Masters of today. Cool to look at, but pointless.
