Starting to collect once again

Postby Curch » Sun Jul 01, 2012 5:41 am

Had a rather large complete vintage collection and sold it all a couple years ago, I am getting back into the game. Still kicking myself! Anyway this time I would to focus on the late 80s, 1990 action masters and the early 1990s action masters. Are the exclusive Japan figures a real tough task? I am also intreeged by the god Neptune figures. So here we go again. I still have a couple g1 figures left but nothing special and a good deal of accessories

First of all, WELCOME!

There may be a reason why you sold all of your geewuns way back then. Don't buy back everything you sold. You will regret having sold your first collection ten times over because you will have to pay three to twenty times what you earned back then.

Beside, Transformers evolved a lot from G1 to today, mostly for the better.

If you are serious about getting back to Transformers, may I suggest that you just buy 3 Transformers from ALL the regular lines ever released? Yes, even movie toys. Meaning buy one small, one regular, and one big. That way, you'll have a pretty interesting collection and you'll have a very good idea how the toy line evolved.

Are you on a tight budget? Start of by collecting every single representations of your favorite two main characters that appeared in most of the lines for the same result. My TF collection started as a Optimus Prime collection. Then Starscream followed. Pretty soon after, I got a little from everything.

Do you "hate" a TF toy line? Like maybe Beast War or Movies? Get some toys anyway from them. You may just be pleasantly surprised.

Anyway, if you just want to collect the old G1-G2 generations, that's fine. However, you will spend a lot of money just to miss out on so much greatness.

Finally, you need room and shelves. Lots of them. I do hope you are not the kind of person to just leave everything sealed on cards or in boxes. The pure pleasure to open up a toy, applying stickers, transforming and posing... It all surpass in infinite ways just keeping everyting boxed. I have a few toys sealed myself. But 99% of them are doubles of what I already have and oppened. Yes, all my Masterpieces and other expensive TF are openned and played with. I will not have it any other way.

In conclusion, welcome back to Transformers. Your heart rejoice whilst your wallet weep.

Are JP Transformers a b*tch to find? As soon as I find a Roadfire that doesn't cost me two months rent, I'll get back to you on that.

Thanks for the advice. I am a vintage toy collector only. And although the newer stuff will be vintage someday and show great detail, they just don't do it for me. I love the stuff from when I was a kid. I am a long time toy collector and have thousands of pieces. I got a great offer on my Transformers and let them go. I do have to agree with you though about going back and getting them, it would be very costly and the fact that I already owned them at one time, doesn't really thrill me. Yeah, I will get Prime and Megatron and all the must haves, but they are not first on my list. I am more intersted right now in vintage that I never had. By 1990 I was 15 years old and toys were not a concern of mine anymore. As for money, if I see something that I am looking for and I think its a fair price, I will buy it. Not that money grows on trees, but you never know if you will see that item again for the price. Thanks again!

DONT YOU LEAVE YET!

Okay, you like vintage, I can deal with it. May I humbly suggest you get some GoBots? They are now official transformers, are vintage, and usually awesome and cheap.

One kind I like very much is the Super GoBots Cabin Heads. I really love their hyper realistic vehicle modes and their very retro looks. Click here to know more!

Do you just like the VINTAGE aspect of the toys, or do you like the G1 aspect and don't mind re-issues? If it's the later, THE SEACONS SET REISSUE IS AT CLEARANCE AT THE BBTS FOR A WHILE NOW. You should get that set. For that price, it's pretty awesome.

But I bet you'd rather spend 350$ instead of 40$ to get the original, right?

Not to worry I won't leave :). Never a big fan of the gobots. As a kid or now. I would like to strictly stay with the vintage. But again thank you for the suggestions. I will continue mt search. Although I don't think it's going to be an easy one.
