UniqueToys G01 ManiaKing (Galvatron)
Re: UniqueToys G01 ManiaKing (Galvatron)
give me it for $25 and I'll take one in the toon colours and one in the comic colours. Maybe even a translucent purple "reformatted" version.
over a hundred though and I'm gonna nitpick. It does look very nice. BUT the head is the main area that puts me off. I feel like his crest is too pointy, and even the face isn't very Galvatron-y. I expect him to look a bit madder, in all senses of the word. The elbows are a bit of a disappointment too, although if they'd just made the wrists swivel I'd be fine with ignoring that.
Definitely looks like it would have made a great TFPrime Galvy.

assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.

It's a cool transformation but I feel the transformation also hurts it. Because the lower legs transform into the cannon they lack the details that Galvatron's legs should have.

Our desire to nitpick is directly correlated with price. You get what you pay for, and as you know, $115 means you expect fewer flaws, and a more perfect product.
Sure, for $23 bucks this guy would be insane. But for 5 times that price, we expect a bit more care to be put into the project.

I guess I just care more about having the character on my shelves than the price. Youre talking to the guy who bought all the Impossible Toys Products at their original prices. Arcee, Medic, Alicon for $80 a pop and Balif and Nightbird for $40. Sure I could have waited until the prices dropped, but what fun is that ? It's a voyager Galvatron. Look how many years it took for a company to step up and do a new voyager Megatron and Prime. (Toyworld) I don't think there is going to be a war of the Galvatrons by competing 3rd party companies. They seem more interested in competing with combiners and headmasters because it allows them to show off their innovation much better. Were lucky were getting this Galvatron. Sure he might go on sale 6 months later, but what fun is that ? I try to look at the extra money spent as paying for my G1 shelf to be more awesome.

Cant say I agree with you on the TF Prime aesthetic. He actually has a nose. He doesn't have a huge Jay Leno superhero jaw. He doesn't have a stupid crooked smirk for a mouth like most TF prime figures. He is frowning and Galvatron is one angry dude. I would have preferred a straight face with no emotion, but it's not horrible. And they did exaggerate the length of the 3 prongs of his "crown" but once again, not horrible. I'm not sure what you mean by permanent bicep curl. Are you implying that you don't think his arms can be displayed straightened out ?

The reason I think he'd work better as a TF: Prime figure is there's no straight lines on the figure. Sure Galvatron was always a curvy mofo, but this design exaggerates it too much for me.
The bicep curl I'm referring it his his lower arm out through the wrist. There seems to be no way with the current design to make a straight line from elbow to hand. If I'm going to replace a pretty damn decent (IMO) Galvatron that's already on my shelf, his replacement had better be an improvement in all aspects. This guy, IMO, is not an improvement in all areas so I will pass. There is of course a chance that I'll eat my words and get him like I did with ToyWorld's Prime, but that's unlikely at this stage.

Please lets not insult this figure by saying it has sculpting elements similar to a TF Prime toy. The 1986 Galavatron had humanoid elements like a human face, round muscular thighs & big biceps.

It's only an insult if you choose it to be

Yes he did have those feature, but what the TF:Prime design includes more than facial design, it's all about exaggeration of features. Typically it's mostly seen in the head/'facial features in a character because as humans, that's what we relate to. However The TF: Prime aspect involves monstrous chests (Bulkhead and Megatron), lengthened slender arms (Arcee, Starscream), thunder thighs (Megatron, Predaking) and so on.
As I see, they've done it to Galvatron as well. They've taken the features that one associates with Galvatron and exaggerated them. Maybe it's not as pronounced, but I stick to my original opinion that this would fit on a TF: Prime shelf.
I'm not saying it's a bad figure, though I have aired my other grievances about it elsewhere here. If you like it and it works for you, get it! I, however, do not like it, and I'm explaining my views.

1986 Galvatron had a huge robot chest. huge round muscular thighs & biceps.
Mania king has a nose & no eyebrows. So it doesn't resemble a TF Prime face.
Most of the TF Prime robot faces had ugly facial sculpts. Mania kings face has humanoid good looking features.
I read a reply above, where someone said Mania king had huge eyebrows. Those are not eyebrows, those are the crest horns that are coming out of the helmet.
Mania king's face looks similar to the 2.0 Deluxe Galvatron toy.

I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

Ermm..... I'm still unsure. I'm still not keen on the biceps crunches, but it doesn't look bad. I just can't shake the feeling Galvatron could still be done better.

I'm in the same boat, plus I don't trust UT when it comes to QC. Even if all of the above was not an issue, there is no way in hell this is a $115 toy!!!megatronus wrote:Sodan-1 wrote:Ermm..... Yea. QC is a concern. I felt this was less of an issue with the Sharkies because they're so small and not very complex (but somehow they managed to find a way with the minor misalignments). But on a larger figure like this, so much more can go wrong.
Plus, their Blaster is $75. Why is Galvatron $40 more?

It's alright. It's certainly not worth the 115. After shipping to Canada that would put it up into the MP price range. This is no MP figure. Sure i'd like to own it and there aren't any real issues i have with it other than the price. For that reason alone it will be a pass for me.
Nice figure but no thanks.

TW Megatron received tons of negative feedback before it got released. flash forward years later & now it's going for double price on ebay.
I'm buying One mania King. Worse case scenario,If I don't like it. I have the option of re-selling it on ebay for a small profit.
Other than the sideways wrist,I see no other negatives with Mania King. It is still the best new age Galvatron toy that looks the most like the 1986 version.
If mania king does anything positive. It will be to ignite the flame for other 3rd party companies to create more Galvatron toys.

I thought (and, with the figures in-hand, still think) the $30/Sharkie wasn't a bad price, but I guess we've been over this before.

I bet they lower the price, just like they did with their Beasticons. Won't get me to bite... but I'm sure this thing will fall below $100.

Realistically they'd have to lower the price. In the long run that would most likely make them more money from more people buying it, but I wont be one of them either.

I think he means the fact that if you want the elbow joints facing the front so that the arms can bend forward, you have the have him with his hands palms up thanks to the fact that the wrists can't rotate (though he can probably scratch his armpits like a gorilla

I just cancelled my preorder too. I'm gonna have to wait for the reviews on this one. If I'm convinced that the arms don't bug me too much and that I can sufficiently alter the head and face to make them look decent (by my standards), I'll consider purchasing it. But as it is, I'm just not feeling it.

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I am that which is, which was, and is yet to come.
And you will know my name is MEGATRON when I lay my vengeance upon you!

Is there any proof that the biceps dont swiwel ? Or are we making assumptions because they failed to pose the prototypes arms in the pictures ? Maybe we should turn to the unique toys predacons and sharkies to see if they all dont have that articulation. I dont have the sharkies in hand. But from what i see by the seperation of the white and purple parts, i believe the biceps do swivel. We just havent seen it yet in any pics.

The wrists not swiveling doesn't bother me much.
There are quite a few Hasbro voyagers that don't have wrist swivel.

I don't think the complaint is about a biceps swivel, but a wrist swivel. The palm will always be facing up relative to the elbow joint.

Makes poses like this one tough because it will look like he is perpetually wanting to do bicep curls:

Now, one of the renders did make it look like there would be a wrist swivel, but this is a render and not a prototype:
