Just a turn of phrase. There's actually a few different words that can be used to describe **** nice.
Bit of a funk, so I figured I'd venture to K-Mart and buy some plastic crack. Looked up a few reviews for Cyberverse figures before I went.
Got there, and was quickly reminded of the prices for Cyberverse. Fortunately I found this guy instead. I'm not normally one for non-transforming junk, but he'll go with the Optimus Prime collection and the three changing faces just makes him fun.
Was also half the price of a "deluxe" figure, so yeah. **** you Australian retail prices.

I actually want one of those mighty mugs just for the lols, but which one? I'll decide when I spot em at retail.

Prime, simply for the Optimus Prime/Convoy collection.
Definitely not because it's a good figure.

I was considering Ultra Shockwave, but WfC just nullified that nonsense.
The figures do have a cool look to them though; I just feel I'll be left wanting.

ehhhhh not a big fan of the look, the biggest put off for me though is having to pay $30AU for this

That's not worth $30AU. 20 maybe, but not 30.

I don't know the conversion rates, so I'll assume $30AU = roughly $15Us, cause that's what the warrior class (that is a warrior class right?) cost here. I feel the same way for the limited articulation and transformation, $10 would feel about right.Burn wrote:carytheone wrote:The figures do have a cool look to them though; I just feel I'll be left wanting.

I'm not a hater and I appreciate a simpler line aimed at a younger demographic (actually I love to see figures I don't want). I almost fell for it and picked up my boy Starscream, but WillyJ clued me in. I would pick up either the warrior or ultra Shockwave though at a small discount. I just like fun toys and could care less about the rest.

Pretty nifty hand/axe trick there!! I almost got the warrior and the legion Starscream and then passed. I’m definitely happier with the RiD warrior of him.

You should check out the larger one, the ultimate class one I think? That one is a much better Prime, and really minus the truck kibble hiding the hands like the RiD OG Warrior did, that thing looks pretty awesome. I held one and nearly bought it a few weeks ago, but I don't need the large Prime, but he feels really good.

I watched a review or two about it and yeah, it seems like a decent figure (very G1-ish transformation). But it's not here locally, and if it was, it'd probably be about $80AU.

While I have zero interest in them as well, at least you can justify their prices!

Yes
Which really makes no sense seeing how much I'll happily pay for masterpiece/3rd party figures......

Now that I'm getting slugged an extra 10% to import MP's, I really have to be careful of how much I'm spending.
Sadly, even with the extra 10%, it still works out roughly the same to import normal line figures from Japan than to buy them locally.

Sort of. The price is making it much harder to justify buying a whole wave (when I want the whole wave) in one hit, even if it is just the deluxes or voyagers.

I'm actually ok with the prices of the Cyberverse figures and I feel they're fair, but they are just too high for me to justify.
The problem with collecting TFs (and other collectible figures) is you have to get them while you can or pay 2 to 3 a as much later. At least with my other hobby (video games) they're almost always available digitally and for much less 6 months to a year later. Games don't expire yo!

Very much this.
I've been fortunate in that I've been able to get pretty much everything I want when they were released. Often though I've paid full price, because sales don't happen often around here, and when they do, there's no stock.
Would I like Masterpiece Optimus Primal? **** yeah, but could I afford him when he came out? Nope. Could I afford him when his second release came out? Nope. The only thing that makes me feel better about not having him was that I had no where to really put him in the collection. Didn't want MP's mingling with BW figs, didn't want BW characters mingling with MP figs.
So he didn't fit, that was fine, I could live without him.
Then Megatron was revealed. Do I want MP BW Megatron? **** yeah! Can I afford him? **** no!
Because if I got him then I would DEFINITELY have to get Primal.
Oh our silly little collection foibles.

It's funny or ironic (maybe both) that you mention getting a bigger house for all your ****, that's one of the primary reasons we got a bigger house. We each wanted our own room. I'll give you one guess what lines the walls of mine

I used to buy a lot of 3P stuff (mostly because Has/Tak wasn't releasing the characters I wanted and I was impatient.
These days, buying full waves of the official product, my wallet feels like I am back in the thick of 3P buying...
I don't know when it will be, but I do see my TF purchases trailing off to nothing in the near future. I had initially bought all of the Movie TF lines too, but pretty much quit that a couple of movies ago. (I did finally get Walmart exclusive Hot Rod, but only because I could grab him for almost half the current deluxe prices...) And I picked up a few of the neat looking RID figures. (Who can pass up a tractor that transforms into a bot with antlers? It would only have been better if he was green and called "John.")
