Custom paint - peeling off??

Postby DvDqNoC » Sat Aug 04, 2007 11:11 pm

Is there a way to keep my paint from peeling off? Like i know theres some kind of spray... but i dont want to spray my finger. Is there a paint-type material i can 'paint' onto my figure to give it an extra clear protective coating?

Weapon: Plasma Beam Rifle
You need to find a clear top coat to protect the paint. 2 to 3 coats. Hope that helps.

Krylon makes some matte and satin sprays. I use Model Master clear coats - flat, semi gloss, gloss. I also use Future floor wax. It can be brushed on or airbrushed and doesn't need to be thinned first.

If it's peeling off, you may try washing the parts in soapy water first to get off any oils from the factory. If that doesn't help, a very light sanding could work. I have some 1500 grit sandpaper I keep around for very delicate stuff like that. It doesn't tear up the surface very much, and just roughs it up enough for paint to grab to better.

Wet a paper towel with a soap/water mix and rub him down then.

What type of toy are you trying to keep the paint from peeling off. It shouldn't peel off if your not peeling it.

seriously a matte spray fixative from krylon works really well. if you use brush on protectives, chances are you'll see brush strokes and it will not look very good. spraying is the way to go. if you dont want to get any spray on your hand, just wear some vinyl or latex or whatever gloves you can find. if you're worried about inhaling the stuff.... i dont think it will matter because you wont be exposed to it very long if you're just spraying down something small like a action figure. anyway, the spray will probably cost you around 3.99 to probably 7.99. just shop around and krylon worked the best for me. DONT get a krylon workable fixative, thats something else, just try to find a matte(non-glossy) spray fixative.

really? b/c i thought unneccessary protection on parts of the toy that havent been painted, as a spray would do, would make the overall toy look bad... maybe im wrong?

wellive dont a test paint on a junk toy, and yes i peeled it on purpose to see if it will peel, and it does. I did this because i know by transforming toys, my TF toys are boud to peel off
