Click on this link to a How to Draw Transformers book. Written by Simon Furman Drawn by Guido Guidi. I draw but I have yet to try drawing a Transformers. I will pick it up to see if it has any good tips. :grin:

I've bought a couple of these "How to Draw..." books over the years. I still can't draw worth a dan without taking about a month to make it come out right.

Drawing is easy. Just look for the shapes. If you see in the how to books they give the shapes. The hard part is taking what you see and putting on the paper.Peoples brains see things differently. You just have to learn to see it.

Drawing well does, however, take lots and lots of practice and may in fact be somewhat developmental. Between the ages of 11-15 I spent many hours a day drawing with my friend who was worlds better than I was (he had been taking lessons since he was 6.) Now, I've retained much of that skill, but I never learned the finer points of shading, highlighting, or texturing. I can draw my TF's and dnd characters with some satisfaction, but I'll never be an actual artist.

Drawing can become easy, if you keep at it and have some good direction. Saying "drawing is easy" is like saying "juggling is easy," the rudiments are simple, but the extensions are complex, but almost anyone who has a working hand and a functioning eye can learn to do either with practice to some degree of mastery.

Good point. I see what you mean.It is easy for me. I draw and paint. I can also juggle!! Your comment made me laugh. It is really just drawing shapes. Shading takes more practice. But I really think if you can draw a basic shapes you can practice and draw good. Now the level you max out at determine how well your drawings come out. The hardest connection is from eyes to brain to hand. I can draw potraits of people but the square shapes in transformers can by troublesome for me to translate to paper. Strange but I will work on it.

I have been drawing since I was 4. Other people might look at what I can draw, and probably think "I can't do that. This person is a lot better then me. I could never do that." And I usaully tell them " I am that good only because I have been doing it for 23 years and I have had a lot of practice." So pretty much how a person gets good is that they practice. In the beginning a person usually WILL stink at it at first, but as they keep practicing, they tend to get better at it. If you draw, you WILL make mistakes. They get less over time, but I still make them a lot. So don't let them discourage you, as they are a natural part of learning.

I did try to draw few charracters by model.
Few things what I learned from school was not try to draw a sincle perfect line and ofcourse size and shadows. Still I am far away from my friends skills (absolute amazing manga drawers). I just want to practise more and perhaps thats the key to draw more and more. Even little at each day.

So does anyone know if this book has any detailed char sketches of specific transformers (besides Optimus Prime and Megatron)?

I hope they have detailed character sketches, not just from the front, but from the back, sides and underneith too. I also hope it shows differant facial expressions they have so I can draw the faces accurately without it looking stupid.

I believe most of those how to draw books kinda suck, but I haven't checked out that transformers drawing book. I could be wrong, all my experience with how to draw books comes from the "how to draw manga."

But if the art is good it may be well worth looking into for character reference, I've never got into drawing Mechs, more of a life drawing person myself.
