Perhaps this serves as some explaination as to how Capt. Whitwicky was able to trigger Megatron's Nav systems - His own body heat & Nervous system (which is basically electrical in nature) providing Megs with <i>just</i> enough sustinance...an idea that seems to be supported by the fact that when he touches the dormant Decepticon , there is a small amount of arcing energy between them.

I myself have never heard this theory before, but explained that way it doesn't seem too terrible an idea. Way to think outside the box!

Actually I saw it more as a nod to Beast Wars...

...the Maximals and Predacons were both said to have sparks. When they died, they joined the "all spark" from which all transformer life derives, sometimes also referred to as the matrix.
