How much spying on humans is soundwave going to be doing? And any communications could easily be tapped without going into a secure location with the right equipment. I think that will be more of Soundwave's role in the new movie.

Soundwave never used his alternate mode in combat anyway. So that is a moot point. With his mass conversion, he would easily be able to go toe-to-toe with any Autobot.

He'll probably do enough. All he really needs is one good establishing scene. How much did Frenzy use his stereo form? In most scenes, he was in robot form. He only used his primary alternate mode once throughout the entire movie, and that was on Air Force One.

So, just curious at this point....is everybody here besides Tramp perfectly fine with Soundwave not being a boombox?

Edit: Doh! I forgot to add mine....as if it wasn't obvious enough. I'm fine with him not being a boombox.

Yea, changes were a forgone conclusion once this movie business started. Let's see what the new team can come up with.

It sounds mor to me that you guys don't really want Soundwave. You just want a character named Soundwave.

If that's the case, Blackout could have been Soundwave you you'd have been happy, or Frenzy could have been Soundwave and you would have been happy.

The problem is most of the public would not.

The real Soundwave has a very specific type of alternate mode—that being a stereo electronic device. He also has mass conversion. Along with his voice, these are integral parts of who and what he is as a character.

Without them he is not truely Soundwave, and might as well not be in the movies at all.

I don't want G1 Soundwave, no. He was an exceptionally bland character, with a gimmick that only served to prove how stupid Spike was. (It has a giant effing Decepticon Logo on it! Hell, even the Armada Kids were smart enough to notice that!)

I was very spoecific about that point. because you canot have the real Soundwave without a variation on his classic Iconic alternate mode, without mass conversion, withput his personality and without his voice. What i think most people will really look for is synth voice, personality, and minions, but i don't think most people are really gonna care if soundwave is changed, because they realize this is not the original tf universe

Understand. There is nothing wrong with making some changes to update a character. They did it to all of them. What is wrong is taking a character and making so many changes that it becomes unrecognizable. Changing Soundwave into a vehicle for no other purpose than to get rid of one of his most iconic abilities, is changing him to the point of making him unrecognizable, and that is bad.

well everone i've talked to has told me it doesn't matter if his form is changed, and mind some of them are big tf fans

Even if they made a Soundwave like you say, it would still not be the oh so coveted ginuine article, because not only would he not have the same alt mode....the same writers, animators, etc. would not be on board to make this aleged perfect Soundwave. So even if he does meet your criteria, he'll really be nothing more than an homage to the original.

With that said, I want a robot that looks, sounds, & functions enough like the original Soundwave, & maybe have some other elements to help carry the name such as sonic disruptor waepons & such, to carry the name.....but no mass shifting, & no boombox.
