Question(s) about an old Transformer I just bought

Postby Mike-Towns » Sat Jul 07, 2007 5:28 am

Hey
I just bought this little Astrotrain toy for $5AU($4.29US), and had a few questions about it.

(sorry for the poor quality pics)

It's made of both plastic and metal.

I just wanted to know what year do you think it was probably made it, if it's a G1 figure, and how much anyone thinks it's actually worth.

Thanks!

Thats a gobot, not a transformer - worth a few pence.

Sometimes I wonder why Go-Bots failed and Transformers survived, but all it takes is a name like that to remind me.

It says it has no parts or accessories, but didn't the tailfin come off as a lame "weapon" that looked like a flag?

(Maybe it was just the knockoff version I had...)

Gobots were competitors of Transformers. They sucked and they sucked hard. I had some of them too. Most had like windshields for heads and such....lol. And pretty simplistic transformations for the most part. The cartoon was dumb too.

I cant vouch for the cartoon (never saw it) but not all the Gobots were crap. Just their names.

Gobots were a missed oppurtunity. People tell me that gobots actually came first, toys and cartoon, and if that's the case maybe it's just an odd coincidence, but to me it seems like gobots wanted to be too much like the transformers. If they had just marketed the toys as hot wheels that did more than just sit there, i think they would have sold a lot better. Make the names better or don't name them at all. They wouldn't even need a cartoon (trust me, the toon didn't help at all). Hot wheels have been a top selling toy since the beginning of time, gobots could have taken them a step further.

Then again I'm glad they didn't amount to much. Transformers have always been better in almost every way. Gobots had the mini figures down great though, guys like brawn and cosmos pale in comparison to the awesomeoness of your spay-c there.

Actually a good number of them had Transformations more complicated then the first two years worth of Transformers. They also used a bigger variety of alt modes. I mean they even had a forklift. They suffer not because of poor toys, but because they had stupid names and a crappy cartoon. Lets all be honest, if Transformers had sucked as bad as Gobots did the toys wouldn't have mattered to most of us as kids.

Spay-C is actually a pretty nifty figure. Had him as a kid, but managed to destroy the poor guy along with most of my other toys, I was an evil child. Grimlock discovered he couldn't fly when he went out a two story window when I was 7.
