Shia Signs onto Sequel & Discusses Acting Challenges
- Weapon: Atom-Smasher Cannon
Shia Labeouf discusses the acting challenges involved with making the Transformers Movie with IGN
and compares them with another film he is starring in, Disturbia. Shia also confirms that he is signed up for the Transformers sequel.
"There's things you f***ing hate in that type of movie, and there's things that you do enjoy," said LaBeouf of acting in a heavy effects film. "But it's a totally different thing. You show up [for Disturbia] and you have David Morse to act off of. There's a security to it as opposed to [acting opposite] a ball and stick [in Transformers]. There's no way of telling if you and this robot — even after you've gotten your performance down, you've got animators that are going to take the robot and animate it. So it's a 50/50 play and you don't really know how it's going to turn out. Where as in Disturbia you could go back and look at the monitor and see if you felt it or not; in Transformers, we never had that. It was always this ambiguous 'maybe it'll work, maybe it won't' through the whole production. There was no security. And the relationship I had with [director Michael] Bay was not this nurturing, pat on the back [thing]. He was General Patton and you kind of have to be to make those movies."
Prior to the interview, LaBeouf was discussing his new physical training program — one designed to help the young actor "bulk up." Ironically enough, that nondescript conversation led to an exciting revelation.
"That's part of the bulk-up; they talk about the sequels," said LaBeouf of his role in Transformers. "I'm signed up if they do them, yeah."

I agree 100% with Fussion's comment! It's like he has to work in at least one F-bomb for every interview he does. Just shows how pompous he is. Let's hope his acting makes up for it.

Wow, I only saw one swear word this time... either the 'net comments are finally getting through that skull of his, or someone decided to edit out what he said.
Personally, I hope it's the previous--would be nice to see if the dude has learned to curb the constant f-bombing.

Most franchise movies are planned with sequals in mind these days, that way they dont have to wait for an actors schedule to clear up years down the road just to sign him and also they get a jump on the writing process.

I'm expecting that it'll be a success to some level...i doubt it'll be disastrous and it makes sense to start planning early before the technology that they currently possess grows old in the film industry (though i doubt anyone can surpass their techniques and resources in the next couple years). I guess most importantly it's all about the budget side to the whole thing.
And regarding this actor's attitude, yes it's annoying, and here's hoping that further lessons would teach him better manner in the future. But i guess i don't really care; after all, we don't have to deal with him, we just have to watch him freak out and gets chased by giant &(#*!$* robots in the movie.

Agreed. Shia actually isn't bad. He just finally is getting a lead role instead of the sidekick stuff. And as far as his swearing goes, I don't mind it too much, it isn't like he is intentionally trying to be a d*ck or anything he just doesn't realize.
And as far as him being chosen as Sam/Spike, there isn't anybody better that I can think of for them to have chosen, so I don't care about it.

He should tone it down alittle,...really. I didn't mind him in CONSTATINE. I'm sure he'll play this role well. Not a far stretch between characters. On the sequel?, doesn't matter if this movie is bad or good. Even bad movies get sequels these days.

He played in Constantine and a couple of others but nothing here lately Transformers will be the 1st movie he has done in a long while. Next Tuesday is God of War II, Shining Force EXA and Armored Core 4.

My thoughts as well. He acts pretty much like I do. I'm not as "robust" with my language as he is, but he's an average 20 year old in terms of how he acts and speaks.
And yeah he is a decent actor for his age. And the movies he has been in he's done an acceptable job.

People get offended by "f***"? It's been used since, hmmm... the beginning of civilization. Everyone I know uses it nonchalantly. It's not like it's immoral. It's just that society is advancing. We're losing the sticks up our a**es.
Anyway, I say Shia's a good/decent actor. I thought he was cool in Constantine. When I read that he was going to be Spike/Sam I was happy that he got the part.

I suppose it could be worse (thinking George Clooney's Batman)...
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

Dude, I think this would be one of the rare cases in which the sequel is better than the original. I mean, the origin flicks are usually kinda boring (yes, YOU, Hulk) but I mean, once they get the start of the war done in the first TF movie, the rest second one would almost have to be an all-out, no holds bared annihilation fest, Terminator 2 style, man. That's gonna open up the possibilities for all sorts of new characters and stuff. Man, it's gonna be great.

I agree. A lot of these franchise flicks know they are going to make sequels so the first movie is used to build the backstory. By that token the first X-Men movie bores me to tears. It's only the climax (of the movie) that I enjoy.

yea who cares? who here hasnt ever cursed before? people are acting all offended, as if their virgin ears must not be pirrced by such language.
sure its an interview, but hes a "kid" and only human on top of it. i think when poeple cry about how actors talk, much like this whole thing.. it goes to show just how human the kid really is.
