No Seibertronians, you did not read the headline wrong. According to an interview posted in CriEnglish.com, Hong Kong based director Jeffery Lau (A Chinese Odyssey), is planning on "remaking" the Transformers movie.
Starting November 19th, 2008, filming will begin on Robot, an idea Lau has had in mind for the last ten years. It was stated by Lau's film company, Le TV.com, that "the movie will present a refreshing look at Chinese robots for people who are used to stereotypical Hollywood figures like Spiderman and Superman. The Chinese robot, in comparison, would feel closer and more human to audiences, as it is the incarnation of Oriental wisdom and strength."
More closer to human? In other words, more G1ish? Fanboys rejoice!
Filming will be set in mainland China in Zoumatang, an ancient village in Ningbo, Zhejiang province. Then the production team plans move to Shanghai's landmark structures, such as the Oriental Pearl tower and the World Financial Center, to finish the shooting.
No cast for the film have been announced yet.
We will definately keep you posted on new details as they become available. To view the original article on this, click here.

that's just hilarious, i'm not a car guy but i assume there's a concensus that japanese/chinese cars suck? but either way, made me laugh good. like the scene where Prime is tranforming for the first time, he sorta tilts his head back as the mouthguard goes away...well picture his head falling off backwards as he does so..priceless.

The recent style of action movies from China uses over the top comedy and fighting. For example - Kung Fu Hustle. (Some of the other names are eluding me right now.) I wonder if the similar style will befall this movie.

my main question to this is will the "Robot" be CG or will it be a human in costume like the old school power rangers?

Re: Transformers Live Movie to get Chinese "Re Issue"
I'd love to see the movie!! I like when robots have feelings!!!
Hahaha Voice off: just when you thought the Hi-Phone was the ultimate Chinese knock-off technology comes Transformers: The Chinese Movie!
After that, well I do like some chinese films, and I gotta say chinese knock-offs are getting better in both quality and design (I found two BT-like models of a Lambo and an Acura that are just cool, and they do transform exactly like any BT would do).
I'll not expect CGs like those from the american movie, mainly because China's industry has not the money hollywood does... and is not as good as the japanese one... But I want to check this movie out!!
No I don't think they'll put a loser in a robot costume...

I bet it will feature actors in lameass costumes fighting in a miniature Godzilla-esque cardboard city.

the way that article sounds makes it look like that he dosen't want to make a Chinese version of Transformers but just a movie about a robot.
But still I think Chinese films are interesting I'll want to watch this one.
