They tried driving and Starscream started shooting at them. In alt mode they're sitting ducks at least in robot mode they can provide cover fire.
So the twins try to stall devestator. Where does bumble bee go ?
He was protecting Sam, remember he fought Rampage and Ravage?

Might explain the "continuity errors" people mention. Geography errors, sure...I can accept that. However I fail to see were the in film continuity broke. I can think of one scene: Wheelie kind of dissapeared. That's it really.
I'm beginning to lump that in with "there is no plot" in the Bullcrap Excuses pile. I have yet to see a single reported error in continuity besides Wheelie going away that isn't explainable with simple paying attention to the film.
ok i will break down the scene for you then. I saw it before i posted my comment
- starscream attacks
- bots pull into quarry
- sam says we need to split up, draw fire
- twins, leo and simmons remain in pit
- bee in car mode pulls out
- sam and mikaela on edge of dune ?. says we will go on (paraphrasing)
Now what we see here is empty space, no cover, then in distance, buildings and flare smoke (back to that later)
- devestator arrives, and the twins battle with leo and simmons
(first flaw, the vacuam devs uses can haul cars, trucks, heavy equipment, but the two humans can stand unaffected, and later manage to cling on to a pipe) i let this pass as its a hollywood trope and oft repeated, jsut bad science !
- Starscream hits emp
- cut to sam and mikala hiding in buildings. Now they crossed the open space by foot, rather than use bumblebee, who is no where to be seen. Logically it would make more sense to have bee with them, it would be quicker. if he couldnt drive over sand, he would still offer them more protection than going on their own
- The insecticon detects the two humans. rampage appears, deposits the parents. Sam notices bee, who has appeared from nowhere behind the buildings. Now the cons were scouring the area so he couldnt have been in hiding.
Problem 2 - where was bumble bee for this time. Bad scfripting having characters appear and disappear and then reappear for deus ex machina
- cut to pit. the battle continues
- cut to bee going kick ass crazy
- back to pit, devestator has trundled off, twins, leo and simmons jsut stand around
Problem 3 - Poor scripting, no threat resolution. You introduce a major nemesis, put heroes in jeopardy, then its resolved by the threat walking away
- Twins disappear for rest of movie
Problem 4 - Characters disappearing
Now im sure i may have made some errors in this retelling, and open for contradiction, but there is a good period of time between seeing bee in the pit, to bee defending sam where he is MIA. rewatch if you dont believe me.
