You just defeated your own argument by saying that authorial intent can be changed by those who write the canon.metaphorge wrote:*Snarkless translation: original authorial intent trumps canon (which can, of course, be changed at any time by whomever has "creative control" of a given franchise or property for whatever reason they see fit).
Authorial intent is the meaning or interpretation of a fictional work that the author had in mind when he or she was creating it.
Frequently in the various Transformers fictions, the author's intent ends up being unclear or even contradicted by the finished work. In these cases it is up to each fan to decide whether to accept the author's intent or the work as-released.
Sometimes the correct interpretation is obvious, but other times it ends up being a matter of debate. When the author's intent doesn't make it into the final product, can that intent still trump the "true" events as shown in the canon? This is an especially difficult question when one considers that the author's explanations, even if widely disseminated through the fandom, are still only known to a tiny portion of the fiction's full audience, which includes far more casual fans and children than it does devoted information-hounds.
Facts about the fiction that are stated/intended by the authors but never established in official fiction are often referred to as pseudocanon.
Oh, I don't deny that several aspects of it were inspired by G1, but its basic components come from the Binder (which itself compiles several elements from all previous TF series, including G1).metaphorge wrote:That's why I originally said it was a joke that WFC and Prime are set in a unitary continuity. WFC was clearly much more strongly inspired by G1 than Prime, so it seems rather silly that Hasbro has insisted on making one follow the other historically.
While it is admittedly not a perfect fit and not exactly how Hasbro wanted to tie the two together, there was still the intent to make the to exist together. I think what Hasbro was indeed wrong with doing was giving both parties way too much leeway in making each one so different. They should have had a greater control over both to make each one bear a better resemblance to the other. But alas, we are stuck with the two as they are: An record of the distant past and a record of the present day of the same continuity.metaphorge wrote:You are of course technically correct as Hasbro presently defines "history" by edict but that doesn't make it less apparently an afterthought.
Then what size would the Minibots be to remain smaller than the Autobot Cars?Windsweeper wrote:I'm so sick of the deluxe cars produced beside deluxe jets of recent years. Would it not be cheaper for Hasbro to produce Scout cars rather than deluxe ones? I wish they'd feck off with their Legends crap as well.
War Within is G1. Dreamwave G1, to be exact.Windsweeper wrote:WFC has more in common with G1 and War Within than any other series.
If these are Generations, there won't be any larger sizes.SKYWARPED_128 wrote:Definitely getting Jazz, but holding out for a larger class for Shockwave and Prime.
Becuase he has a new body for the game.Rated X wrote:Not sure why they are doing a 2nd cybertronian deluxe Optimus, when they just did one last year.
Megatron is likely, since he also has a new body. But not Bumblebee, since he still has his WFC body.Rated X wrote:Maybe because it's Optimus, so expect another Bumblebee and probally Megatron too instead of new characters.

You misread my statement. Perhaps it would help if I were to transcribe page 149 of the Vault book.metaphorge wrote:You misread my statement. Let me rephrase to make it crystal clear:

...which is precisely why I said that the "Aligned" continuity is "a joke". If someone was trying to trying to make sure the two storylines were aligned from the beginning, they obviously didn't try hard enough because they don't line up very well. It seems more likely to me that the decision came after the projects had taken shape rather than someone was exceptionally incompetent in carrying out a previously defined policy.
I do appreciate being reminded how utterly nonsensical discussions regarding the "factuality" or lack thereof of fictional events usually turn out to be.
Who were we at war with again?
It continues with discussing how this binder's contents led to the creation of both WFC and Prime to further expand on its past and present events in better detail. This binder spawned both, and both cover different points in this binder's documented chronology. There is a plan here. The goal is "no contradiction" rather than "unquestionable connection".Inside the Hasbro offices is a book that maps out the past, present, and future of the Transformers story line. More than 350 wide, full-color pages describe the entire history of the Cybertronians, from the moments after the Big Bang to the final twilight of this universe, with billions of years in between divided into epochs of storytelling. This tome is the first of its kind. The first twenty-five years of Transformers lore was created, comparatively, on the fly--continuity reboots were common, and deep-rooted mythology was established after the storytelling had already begun. For the foreseeable future Transformers, however, there is a plan.
Creative director Aaron Archer, along with Transformers experts from within Hasbro and a select few invited from the fan community, developed the epic tale. This framework, which includes a definitive origin story for the robotic life-forms, will become the basis for the future of Transformers storytelling. The brand bible paints the new Transformers canon in broad strokes, however, allowing futire storytellers the flexibility and space to creatively steer their installments of Transformers narrative.

I'd love these as well... but if I've learned ANYTHING about Hasbro over the past 25 years.![]()
With one Arcee already out via the Prime line, I think this is hella slim chance. And while I'd love a Slipstream, I can't see them releasing 4 jets... and I WOULD rather see the SET of seekers, before Slipstream.
That said, I'd REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY like a Slipstream. I'd buy the h3ll out of a Slipstream.
The Vault isn't apocrypha. It was published under Hasbro's license, and therefore canon.

Yet. There will be a sub-line launched around wave 4 as per usual.
