How about the helmet that Megs had from like the first toy commercial? It was based on the Gun Robo prototype.

A little survey -- do you know how to transform Megatron back and forth, without the manual or videos -- a 100% own your own, with no help?
And if you haven't transformed him in say, six months, can you still do it as you would Sideswipe or MP-10?

I got him on release, opened him immediately, and haven't transformed him once.

How come?
william-james88 wrote:Yes for both questions.
I haven't transformed him enough times to do it completely on my own. His alt-mode doesn't interact with any other MP because of scale, so my only reasons to transform him are principle and the feel of the gun-mode.
But when I do it a lot of the steps make "sense."

Cyberpath wrote:Suggestions for a flying stand in gun form? (with all its attachments.)
Gave the generic arms a shot, wouldn't leave it, too flimsy.
I think the only thing that would work is a 3rd paryt product designed specifically for the task.

How come?
Fear, mostly. I try to do as much as I can without instructions (did SS RotF Megatron last night, that was tricky), but I feel like this is one I could seriously break and some people have. Plus I just haven't set the time aside for it.

Well, if you do, you should definitely set aside the time for it

I find Optibotimus' step-by-step video (in both directions) helpful. More than the tiny instructions images.

And there are at least two more reviewers.
I hope MP-44 is easier.....

I've only had enough time with him to take him out and pose him a bit, OH GOSH BY GOLLY GEE WHILIKERS is he all that I had hoped for, and more!

I don't know what will be more of a nightmare, transforming him or photographing him.

Yes to both questions. I've only transformed him twice, the first time with a video. If i were to unpack him now i can transform him without any aid. He's incredibly fiddly the first few times and breaking in the joints (especially loosening the hips) can be scary, but once the joints are smoother he's very well to do (unlike MPM-6, which i've decided will never be transformed again because he does not want to come together at all).

Hey Cobo, I remember a time where we were both unsure of owning this rather expensive toy. But now we both have him and we both love him! Looking forward to your thoughts on the transformation. My favourite it is when you find out how those vents on the side of his belly dissapear within the gun.

I get that, all that chrome, you have to make sure something white is reflected in it otherwise it comes out black.Cobotron wrote:I don't know what will be more of a nightmare, transforming him or photographing him.![]()
That's part of the reason why I like the paint of the regular MP-36 -- his black is dark grey and his silver is grey, makes it easier to shoot.
I like the "auto-transformation" of the thighs.william-james88 wrote:Hey Cobo, I remember a time where we were both unsure of owning this rather expensive toy. I hope Takara wrote down whatever they did with his eyes. They "glow" even in shadow. Wish MP-13 was more like that.

I DID IT! I transformed him! What a ride.

I'll admit, I was so intimidated by him, but it really wasn't that bad. And, it was actually fun. After hearing all the horror stories of breakage, and paint scraping with 36, and the added danger of chrome on 36+, I knew I had to handle him like a baby, holding a dozen eggs, made of glass. Using the instructions, and 35 years of transforming experience I had him TFed for the first time from bot to alt in just over an hour. And I truly enjoyed every minute of it. Lots of "OH WOW" moments. Like the one Will pointed out with the rib cage pieces. Or just the way all his torso bits are redistributed. I'm always amazed by a Transformation from a seemingly symmetrical robot mode to a asymmetrical alt mode.

MAN! Just like the original toy.
I missed the extending scope the first time around. Thanks for pointing it out, Cram!

The hell, Takara?! As if his Transformation wasn't bad enough, half way through the designers threw in this hidden "F You" mode.

INCOMING!

Prepare for your annihilation!

I'm just gaga over this face. It's old school Takara robot character design. Which has always been my main draw to Transformers.

Now, now. I come offering glad tidings.

FOOLISH AUTOBOTS! Always thinking with your sparks. Never with you your logic processors.

Oh Starscream, your plans to usurp me never cease to amuse.

There's such a nice sense of completion finally having a Megatron for my MP collection. And, the fact that this 36+ version is exactly what I wanted when I first saw 36 makes it that much better. He's proven once again, that my approach to MPs of waiting to see if they do a more toy accurate version is paying off. Yeah, maybe I miss the hype train as it passes me by, it's fun to ride that train, but I am no less excited now to have this guy.
With 36+ in hand, I actually feel like if I never bought another MP, I could die happy with an MP collection that feels complete and cohesive.

I did the same with the CHUG line before the "brand unification" nonsense, for the sake of cartoon-accuracy. That meant getting the toys after everyone else, but like with MP-36+, the redecos, remolds, accessories and comics reignited interest.Cobotron wrote:There's such a nice sense of completion finally having a Megatron for my MP collection. I did. He came packed that way. It's cool and throwbacky to the old way, but I prefer it on his back and out of the way. while I like my MPs to be closer to the OG toys, I do appreciate changes that make sense, like the gun barrel, or say, no trigger crotch.Cyberpath wrote:Did you try the the toy configuration for the barrel yet? And appearntly that's where the designer wanted the barrel in the first place..
BTW, if you want to take the toy thing a step further, you can expose MP-10's wheels.

Not sure if this is the place I should be posting this but here goes. How would you guys feel if a KO company made a KO MP-36, but without paint, and instead, his plastic is molded in the same color as Siege Megatron's? I mean, it would be cheaper, and less nerve wracking to transform since there's no paint to scuff. I like this idea, what about you?

I will say that I just got one of the various KO MP-36s and the paint seems pretty durable. Check the last few pages of my collection thread for pics (link in sig). I will say no more before the pitchforks and torches come out.
